Sunday marks the first return of Nets stars Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce to TD Garden since being traded by the Celtics in the offseason. Pierce and Garnett anchored Boston team that won an NBA title in 2008, and both expect their return to be emotional

"(This) is something you can't script," Pierce said, via ESPN. "It's going to be a lot of emotions. You play your whole life there. You won a championship there. The first time coming to the building (as a visitor), I never thought it would happen. ...

"It's going to be fun. I don't know how I'll react, what emotions are going to be going through my head. Wait and see."

Garnett echoed Pierce's sentiments.

"I'm sure the emotions are going to be very high and I'll react accordingly, but we're there to win a game and I hope this doesn't overshadow the game," said Garnett. "It'll be good to see (Rajon) Rondo and some other personal friends that, obviously, don't play. Other than that, it's another game that I've got to be prepared for."

Rondo is the last holdover in Boston from the 2008 championship team. Rondo, who's played in just four games this season after returning from his ACL injury, is now a captain of the team. Although both Pierce and Garnett were mentors for the then-young Rondo, the All-Star guard doesn't think emotions will affect the game.

"I talk to them all the time, text," said Rondo. "I don't think it'll affect us at all. It's part of the process. This isn't the first time (ex-Celtics) have come back in this building."

While Boston (15-30) appears headed for the NBA draft lottery, Brooklyn (19-22) appears on the verge of turning their season around after winning nine of their last 10 games.
