BMW announced that it is going to bring its first diesel-powered 7 series sedan to the U.S. market. The sedan will compete with Audi and Mercedes Benz in looks.
BMW, the world's biggest luxury car maker is adding another notch to its luxury standards with the all-new 740Ld xDrive Sedan, first diesel-powered 7 series sedan coming stateside. The German car maker announced last week that its newest addition will take to the U.S. roads this spring, after its debut at the Chicago Auto Show in February. The BMW 740Ld xDrive sedan, defining the company's luxury standards and high performance, will start at $83,425 including $925 destination and handling fees.
To justify its expensive price tag, the new car features the 7 Series design and great driving dynamics. Powered by a 3.0-liter inline-6 BMW Advanced Diesel engine with TwinPower Turbo technology, the 740Ld xDrive can produce 255 horsepower and 413 pound-feet of torque, complementing the eight-speed automatic transmission. According to BMW, the new diesel-powered sedan can accelerate 0 to 60 mph in just 6.1 seconds. Put this in comparison with Audi A8 L, which comes with 3.0 TDI, a V6, and costs $78,800, it needs 6.4 seconds to reach 60 mph and produces 240 horsepower.
The BMW 740Ld xDrive also features Driving Dynamics Control with Eco Pro mode and Auto Start/Stop to improve fuel efficiency. The technology used in the 740Ld xDrive usually gives a 25 to 30 percent better fuel efficiency compared to other direct gasoline-powered cars.
