A student at Standley Lake High School in Colorado allegedly set himself on fire on Monday, causing the school to cancel classes and shut down for the rest of the day, SeattlePi.com reported.
Cheri Spottke, a spokeswoman for the Westminster Police Department, said it was unclear if the student made a threat or statement before starting a fire at the suburban Denver school. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries.
His name has not been released.
Spottke added that an adult was able to contain the fire in the cafeteria with an extinguisher.
"Our focus now is making sure the kids are safe," Spottke added.
Jefferson County Public Schools spokeswoman Lynn Setzer said the high school was closed for the remainder of the day and that students have were sent home. She also said she did not know if students were inside when the fire was first reported around 7:15 a.m.
Setzer added that students without cars were being transported by bus to a nearby middle school, where they can wait for their parents or guardians to pick them up.
