A woman in South Korea has turned eating on camera into a business.
Park Seo-yeon reportedly makes about $9,000 a month from fans who subscribe to her webcam channel to watch her cook and eat large meals. Better known by her online moniker "The Diva," Park whips up tasty meals and eats them while talking to her admiring followers.
Subscribers pay in a form of Internet currency that can be swapped for money, according to a report from the Huffington Post.
The live stream isn't a pornographic or fetish one, either. Park doesn't remove any clothing, and there is no sex involved. Instead, the channel is a part of an Internet craze that's being called "Meok-Bang," which is a way for South Korean citizens to cure feelings of loneliness.
"People enjoy the vicarious pleasure of my online show when they can't eat that much, don't want to eat food at night, or are on a diet," Park explained to Reuters.
According to the Post, one person living alone in a South Korean home is not uncommon. Some seek a remedy to their alienation or heartach, and spend some time with Park on her webcam.
"The Diva streams daily starting between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m., with her broadcasts going on for hours," gaming site Kotaku reported.
Park reportedly is one of nearly 3,500 meok-bang celebrities in South Korea. She used to work at a consulting agency, but later stepped down from her position to eat on-camera full-time.
