For many it's one of the biggest nightmares: a burglar in your own house. Not only because many valuable, personal belongings may be stolen, but also because it heavily impacts your sense of security. And if you want to feel safe in one place, it's definitely your own house. It's no surprise that more and more security systems are installed to keep intruders away. But the choice for security systems often comes with the question: do I choose an alarm or a camera? In this article, the characteristics of both alarm systems and security cameras are discussed, so that the choice for the type of security becomes somewhat easier.
Alarm system
An alarm system serves for detection and delay. Advanced alarm systems such as the Ajax alarm systems (Dutch: Ajax alarmsysteem) have sensors that detect smoke, fire, water, glass breakage, temperature differences and movements, as well as the opening of doors and windows. On the one hand, alarm systems have a preventive effect: burglars may be deterred by the sound of the alarm which puts them to flight. If the burglar decides not to flee, the alarm will give him less time to loot. After all, when the alarm goes off, a signal is sent to the control room that the house needs to be checked. If there is a burglary, the control room will call in emergency services, such as the police. Consequently, the chance that the burglar has a large loot is minimised.
Camera system
Security cameras also have a preventive effect. Cameras that are in plain sight deter burglars as camera images are hard evidence. In addition, a security camera serves for identification and verification. Camera images ensure that (potential) burglars are recognisable. They record suspicious situations/people which allows for earlier intervention and constitutes evidence if a burglary has already been committed. High quality cameras, such as Hikvision cameras, are able to record high-detail and thus high-solution images. This detailed evidence can ensure that burglars are arrested earlier, possibly leading to the return of your stolen goods. In addition, you need to have evidence in order to validate an insurance claim.
Both
Both an alarm system and a security camera are a good way to secure your home. The combination of the two, however, makes your home even more safe. You can, for example, buy an Ajax alarm system (Dutch: Ajax alarmsysteem) with a camera. Is there a suspicious situation in or around your house? Then the alarm will send you and the control room a notification. You can watch the images live, from any location. This way you'll immediately see what is going on exactly. In the case of a real burglary, you can take immediate action. And the camera records the images, so you always have evidence to fall back on.
