Why is Ted telling his children this long, long love story about how he met their mother? That is the million dollar question many fans of "How I Met Your Mother" want an answer to. For nine seasons, Ted has been reliving the events leading up to when he meets his future wife but never reveals who The Mother is or better yet, the purpose of telling the story.
Thankfully, fans of the CBS comedy won't have to wait much longer. According to TV Line, before the series finale in March, viewers will learn what prompted Ted to begin the story.
"There's an episode coming up about the fact that Robin's mom hasn't come to the wedding - and Lily really, really wants Robin to get upset about it," EP Craig Thomas told the site. "Lily thinks Robin needs the emotional catharsis about this fact."
As we all know, Ted meets The Mother at the wedding. TV Line goes on to report that "by the series' end, we will learn that there is a specific reason why Adult Ted chose the time he did to tell the kids about how he met you-know-who."
Of course, it hasn't been revealed why Ted is telling the story but there has been a lot of speculation. One theory is that The Mother is dead/or dying. We know, that's horrible to think about and it would be a really, really sad way to end the series.
Another theory is that Ted and The Mother are celebrating an anniversary. That's definitely possible and a big celebration would be the perfect time for Ted to sit his kids down and tell the love story. We kind of like this idea. It's sweet and it's not even close to being as sad as The Mother's passed away theory.
A lot of fans of "How I Met Your Mother" have been tweeting their own thoughts and ideas to the million dollar question and there were some rather interesting answers.
Twitter user @stephen_09 thinks Ted could be the one who's dying and @itg_jon tweeted last year that he thinks Ted is telling the story to lead up to an explanation about why he's divorcing The Mother and marrying Robin.
Hmm, ok. So why do YOU think Ted is telling his kids the story of how he met their mother? Share your thoughts, ideas and theories in the comments section.
