Sunday presents what should be a competitive game when the NFL's top offense meets one of the league's top defenses. Seattle boasts a defense that ranked first in passing yards allowed (172.0), total yards (273.6) and points (14.4).
Seattle's secondary, headlined by cornerback Richard Sherman and safety Earl Thomas, is a big reason for the defense's success.
"They are as good as advertised," Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning said of the Seahawks defense, via ESPN. "Probably one of the most impressive things is how well they play together as a unit."
Sherman and weather were two of the bigger talking points leading up to the Super Bowl. Sherman, who made headlines for his passionate post-game speech almost two weeks ago, insists it's just about being competitive.
"I am just a guy trying to be the best," said Sherman, who finished the regular season with a league-high eight interceptions. "I am a guy who wants to help this team win. I am a fiery competitor who puts his life into his work and puts his everything into his work."
Although weather was a concern heading into Sunday, both teams were less interested in the conditions and more interested in the chance to compete for the fabled Lombardi Trophy.
"I don't care where we play," Thomas said. "I know when we play, all the feelings and the stuff I need to get ready and prepare. It'll be there."
With speculation growing that Manning may soon retire, Sunday is an opportunity to add a second Super Bowl ring to his impressive resume.
