A Dartmouth student died while competing in a cross-country ski race in Vermont on Saturday, Boise Weekly reported.
Torin Tucker, 20, was participating in the Craftsbury Vermont Marathon 25-kilometer race as a member of the Dartmouth College Nordic team. According to a school official, attempts to revive Tucker at the scene were unsuccessful and his cause of death is unknown.
Dartmouth released a statement following the death of Tucker, who was a junior at the Ivy Leage school.
"The thoughts of Dartmouth athletics are with Torin's family, friends, and the entire Dartmouth community on this sad day. We urge students, faculty, and staff who would like to speak with a counselor or chaplain, on their own behalf or out of concern for someone else, to contact Safety and Security at any hour," the statement read.
Carly Wynn, one of Tucker's teammates, remembered him as a friendly man.
"He just smiled all the time," Wynn told the Sunday Valley News. "He always asked me how I was doing. He always seemed like he cared what was going on with other people ... He wanted to be happy and he wanted other people to be happy."
Other students took to Twitter to express their shock and sadness at Tucker's death.
"Saddened by the loss of a brother and a great friend to many. RIP," Louis Concato tweeted.
"The photos of Torin Tucker are and will be the most difficult photos for me to search and to process. RIP my fellow '15," Tracy Wang posted on the social media site.
