A convicted killer escaped from a Michigan prison on Sunday and briefly kidnapped a woman who was able to flee and notify authorities, USA TODAY reported.
Michael David Elliot, 40, was serving five life sentences for four murders he committed in 1993 in Bentley Township, Mich. According to officials at Ionia Correctional Facility, he escaped by crawling through a hole in two fences. Elliot was also wearing a white kitchen uniform, which could have made his escape easier due to the snow, officials added.
After his escape, Elliot then abducted a woman with a knife or box-cutter and drove her 100 miles to Elkhart, Indiana. When he stopped to fill his car with gas, the unidentified woman was able to run away and call police. It is unknown if Elliot knew the woman prior to kidnapping her.
The woman reportedly hid in a locked restroom until authorities arrived. She was not injured when they found her.
An emergency dispatcher told The Tennessean that Elliot may be headed to Tennessee because he has family there, but otherwise his destination could be anywhere.
Elliot is described as a white male, standing 5'8' tall and weighing 165 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He does not have any tattoos or scars and also goes by the names Michael Delarosa and Michael Shreader.
Officials believe he is driving a red 2004 Jeep Liberty with the license plate 5FTG55, which also has Bugs Bunny and Tasmanian Devil decals.
