Oklahoma City (38-11) had their 10-game winning streak snapped on Saturday in a 96-81 loss to the Washington Wizards. The game also marked Thunder star Kevin Durant's second consecutive game being held under 30 points after stringing together 12 straight 30-plus point games.
"We were just a step slow in everything," Durant said, via ESPN. "We didn't start up with enough energy and intensity and that falls back on me as a leader."
Durant, who leads the NBA in scoring with 31.1 points per game, had otherwise been magnificent in the way he stepped up after guard Russell Westbrook underwent a third knee procedure in December. Westbrook is expected to return sometime after the All-Star break.
Memphis, meanwhile, is clinging onto the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference. The Grizzlies (26-20) have won 11 of their last 12 games, including six straight. Although Grizzlies guard Mike Conley is expected to miss at least one more week with a sprained ankle, according to ESPN, Memphis may have a new producer on offense in rookie 2-guard Nick Calathes.
Calathes is coming off scoring a career-high 22 points in the Grizzlies' 99-90 win on Saturday over the Milwaukee Bucks.
"He's a good player. He does a lot of things," Grizzlies center Marc Gasol said. "He has great vision and knows how to play the game."
