A Columbian politician has started a campaign to have Shakira's video for "Can't Remember To Forget You" banned from TV channels in the entire nation, calling it immoral and damaging to the youth, the New York Daily News reported.
Marco Fidel Ramirez, a Public Option party councilor from the capital Bogotá, said Shakira's video with Rihanna promotes lesbianism and wants Columbia's National Television Authority to ban the video.
The video for "Can't Remember To Forget You" received over 63 million views since it debuted Jan. 30. The steamy video shows Shakira, 37, and 25-year-old Rihanna cuddling on a bed, smoking cigars and gyrating against walls.
Ramirez, a self proclaimed "family councilor," said he "rejects categorically the contents of Shakira's latest video, as it is considered to damage the moral character of the youth of Bogotá, Columbia and Latin America," according to the Latin Times.
Ramirez has made his sentiments known via social media, tweeting out reprimands against the Columbian-born "Hips Don't Lie" singer. The politician used the hashtag PeligroVideoShakira, meaning "Dangers of Shakira's Video," according to the Daily News.
Ramirez said Shakira and Rihanna, from Barbados, should be ashamed for promoting drugs, stealing and killing, the Daily News reported.
"Our Shakira with her erotic video is promoting tobacco usage and has become the worst example for our youth," Ramirez tweeted, the Daily News reported.
"Shakira's new video is a shameless case for lesbianism and immorality," Ramirez said, the Daily News reported. "It is a danger to children."
Ramirez goes on to say the video entices "weak" people to turn gay.
"It sends a provocative message to weak people who can be polluted and induced to practice (lesbianism)," Ramirez said, according to the Daily News.
