New York (19-29) strung together four straight wins before dropping their last two games against the Miami Heat and the Milwaukee Bucks. Although the season hasn't gone as plan, the Knicks are only two games behind the Charlotte Bobcats for the eighth playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
With the season nearing the halfway point, however, New York needs every win it can get.
"There are no freebies in the NBA," Knicks center Tyson Chandler said, via ESPN. "You can lose on any night to any team if you don't play well."
Despite the dismal season, Knicks star Carmelo Anthony continues to shine. He leads the team with 27.3 points per game and is coming off a 36-point effort in New York's loss to Milwaukee.
Portland (34-14) has also recently struggled. The team lost five of their last 10 games, including a 100-90 loss on Monday to the Washington Wizards.
"When you aren't having a great night, defensively, you have to find a way to at least make shots," Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard said. "When you are making shots, you have to find a way to get it done, defensively."
Lillard, though, has continued to build on his impressive rookie season last year. He's averaging 20.7 points and 5.7 assists per game, while forward LaMarcus Aldridge leads the team with 24.3 points and 11.6 rebounds per game.
