Toothpaste Alert: Terrorist May Hide Explosives Within The Tubes, Source Says (VIDEO)

A warning was distributed by the U.S. Homeland Security Department to all airlines with flights to Russia that terrorist may use toothpaste tubes to smuggle explosives on board, according to the Associated Press.

According to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity to the AP, airlines specifically with direct flights to Russia should be aware of the new threat warning.

The warning went public a day before the games are set to begin, the AP reported. Officials said some airlines with direct flights to Russia are flying from the United States.

The explosives hidden with the toothpaste tube can be assembled in-flight or after the plane lands anywhere within Sochi, according to the AP.

When asked about the threat, the department told the AP the U.S. "isn't aware of a specific threat to the homeland at this time," and that they "regularly shares information with domestic and international partners, including those associated with international events such as the Sochi Olympics."

The only U.S. airline with direct flights to Moscow from the U.S. is Delta Airlines, the AP reported. The Russian airlines offering non-stop flights from the U.S. are Aeroflot and Transaero.

The U.S. Olympic Team's official Airline, United Airlines, does not have flights to Russia, but do provide a charter flights to Sochi, according to the AP.
