5-Day-Old Baby Missing from Wisconsin, FBI and DoJ Investigating the Case

Search is on for a 5-day-old infant who went missing from 836 E. Homeland Court, Town of Beloit, Wisconsin, Thursday morning.

Brianna Marshall, the mother, noticed her son Kayden J Powell was missing from his bassinet at 4:30 a.m. Thursday. She immediately called 911. The Town of Beloit houses around 7,700 people and is nearly 50 miles south of Madison neat the Illinois border.

Around 40 officers from federal, state and local law enforcement forces are looking into the matter, reports the Associated Press. However, no suspect has been identified yet. The FBI and Wisconsin Department of Justice are helping the authorities with the investigation.

"The FBI is here, the Division of Criminal Investigation is in route and we've got assistance from the city of Beloit and Rock County Sheriff's Office," police chief Steve Kopp told WKOW.

The 18-year-old mother told the authorities that Kayden was sleeping in his bassinet next to her. The room they stayed in belonged to another person. She and the baby's 23-year-old father, Bruce Powell, were staying there that night.

Kopp said that they took Kristen Smith, who claims to be Marshall's cousin, from West Branch, Iowa, into custody on an unrelated outstanding warrant. She stayed in the same house as the parents for the night and left early morning. They found baby clothes with Kristen, reports the Examiner.

The authorities did not issue any Amber Alert as the case does meet the criteria.
