9-Year-Old Boston Boy Fatally Shot And Killed By 14-Year-Old Brother

A 9-year-old boy was accidentally shot and killed by his 14-year-old brother in Boston on Friday, CBS News reported.

The unidentified victim was shot in the chest around 11:30 a.m. and rushed to the Boston Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. According to authorities, his older brother pulled the trigger and ran off after the shooting occurred.

His brother was eventually located by police and taken into custody.

"We believe the boy panicked," said Police Commissioner William Evans. "As soon as we captured him, he was very remorseful for what he did."

Officers were able to retrieve the gun.

In the afternoon, the victim's mother was being interviewed by police and described as "extremely distraught." According to CBS, officials were asking the woman why her sons were not in school and why there was a gun in their home.

There was some confusion in reporting the victim's age, with some media outlets saying he was 11-years-old. However, the Boston Police Department said in a statement that he was nine-years-old.

No charges have been filed regarding the incident. Anyone with information regarding the shooting is asked to call the Boston Police Homicide Unit at (617) 343-4470.
