A Spanish prisoner thought to have passed away in his jail cell was being prepared for an autopsy when he woke up before the coroner used their scalpel on him.
He was identified as Gonzalo Montoya Jimenez, whose snoring saved him had he not woken up from catatonic sleep. When checked for life signs, the doctors were sure he was dead when found in the jail cell.
Dead Prisoner Wakes Up From Dead
The case of Jimenez could be related to jokes that some sleep as if they were dead. It was close for the inmate that the examination could have gone worse, the Daily Star reported.
No one could have imagined even doctors that the inmate slept so soundly and looked convincedly dead. A big surprise came when they started to cut him up when he was taken to the morgue. They heard unholy and loud snoring from the supposed dead man in the body bag, cited Science Alert.
Two physicians checked the man in his prison cell, and they confirmed he was not conscious with no identifiable life sign. Even evidence that foul play was the cause of death was not present, which perplexed prison authorities.
Jimenez, 29, was discovered dead in his cell, convicted for robbery, sentenced for the crime in 2018, and taken to the Asturias Central Penitentiary maximum-security wing in northwest Spain to be autopsied.
According to the official report, three doctors checked that the Spanish prisoner was certified for the morgue in that prison before waking up before the autopsy, which was an unexpected rumple.
A forensic doctor's final check verified that Jimenez was officially deceased. When the prisoner was marked with guides to make incisions as preparation for the procedure, that was when he woke up suddenly.
The story caught on the local news media when it was reported, relating the surprise or horror when the forensic specialists were confused from the sounds coming from a death they certified.
Noises coming from inside the body bag has shocked the doctors before the examination. They realized he was alive, noted the Bharate Express News.
The next thing they knew, the aware prisoner was taken to an ambulance to be given medical treatment to recover from the cause of his death like a snooze. Looking back at the macabre incident of the nearly autopsied alive prisoner, no one has answers to this strange incident.
Spanish Prison Service Official Statement
A representative from the Spanish Prison Service remarked that he could not comment at the Institute of Legal Medicine, though all doctors confirmed no life signs. How it happened has no explanation.
One day before the prisoner died, he was not feeling well, showing that his skin was purple. They suspect it was a sign of rigor mortis as the body used less oxygen, noted the officials.
The day of the odd death-like state of Jimenez got no official explanation since it happened. There was no reason why he was lifeless and woke up asking to see his spouse, which is one of the few oddities never expected.
