Prince Harry has filed a libel suit in the High Court against the Daily Mail's publisher, only weeks after his wife won a privacy fight.
The Duke of Sussex filed a claim against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL) on Wednesday afternoon, according to court documents. The accusation is said to be related to a piece in The Mail On Sunday on Sunday, February 20 titled "Revealed: How Harry sought to keep his court dispute over bodyguards secret," which discussed difficulties connected to his family's security.
Prince Harry Files Lawsuit Against Same British Newspaper
Prince Harry, 37, is also embroiled in a legal battle with the UK's Home Office over his security measures when in the country. He has filed a High Court appeal to the Home Office's refusal to allow him to pay for his and his family's police protection while in the UK. The prince has stated that he would like to bring his son Archie and infant daughter Lilibet to visit from the United States, but his attorneys have stated that he and his family are "unable to return to his home" because it is too hazardous.
It comes following a security breach in London in the summer of 2021 when his car was pursued by paparazzi photographers as he exited a charity event. Meghan Markle previously won a privacy lawsuit against ANL for publications that included excerpts from a "personal and confidential" handwritten letter to her divorced father, Thomas Markle, Independent reported.
At a restaurant in Santa Barbara, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were seen with Harry's cousin and her husband, Jack Brooksbank. The photos show the two couples arriving and seated at a table in what looks to be an outside eating area with see-through plastic screens.
The princess, the younger of Prince Andrew's two children, is the first royal visitor to the Sussexes in California since the pair retired from royal responsibilities in March 2020. Prince Harry's legal lawyer has stated that returning to the United Kingdom without Metropolitan Police protection would be dangerous for the couple and their children, Archie and Lilibet. An incident in June 2021, when Harry was trailed by paparazzi after leaving a WellChild charity event in London, is at the heart of the accusation, as per Newsweek via MSN.
