In a speech, the Ukrainian president revealed that eight Russian missiles completely damaged an airfield in central Ukraine while urging the West to deploy additional jets.
The attack appears to have damaged an airfield in Vinnytsia, according to shocking footage uploaded online. Volodymyr Zelensky stated the "peaceful Vinnytsia just was bombed" in a transcript of the emotional speech that was circulated on social media.
Russian Strike Destroys Ukrainian Airport
According to Google Maps, the battered airport, around a four-hour drive from Kyiv, has been seen in videos and images posted on the internet. In part of the footage posted, thick darkness can be seen in the distance, which is reported to be emanating from the devastated airport.
On Twitter, Kyiv Independent defense reporter Illia Ponomarenko posted a photo of the airfield being demolished, stating it had been "completely destroyed." European Union chief Charles Michel has warned that blocking Ukraine's airspace might trigger a global conflict. Zelensky has frequently urged Nato members to impose a no-fly zone over his country to stop Russia's offensive. Western governments have resisted out of concern of escalating Europe's conflict.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has compared the West's economic sanctions against Russia to 'declaring war' on Moscow. This comes after a truce was breached for the second day in a row when a civilian safe passage from Ukraine's beleaguered eastern port city of Mariupol was interrupted, according to the International Committee of the Red Cross, Daily Mail reported.

NATO Nations to Supply Ukraine With Fighter Jets
Russia has been accused of breaking cease-fire agreements meant to evacuate people from besieged communities for the second day in a straight. The municipal council of Mariupol, one of the hardest-hit cities, stated evacuations were impossible because Russians began to reorganize their troops and to severely shell the city. A brief cease-fire allowing residents to flee Mariupol and other areas had broken down less than 24 hours ago.
According to the United Nations, almost 1.5 million Ukrainian refugees have fled to neighboring nations in the last ten days. Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, stated on Sunday. Grandi recently estimated that the battle would touch more than 4 million people in the next few days, claiming that the mass departure is the fastest-growing refugee catastrophe in Europe since World War II.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken said on Sunday that the US is looking at providing Ukraine with fighter planes from NATO countries. "We are looking actively now at the question of airplanes that Poland may provide to Ukraine and looking at how we might be able to backfill should Poland choose to supply those planes," he said during a visit to Moldova's Chisinau.

Meanwhile, Ukraine and Russia are expected to have their third round of peace talks on Monday, March 7. Both sides agreed to build safe corridors for people to evacuate besieged cities and observed a brief truce that was called off hours later during the second round of talks, as per Republic World.
