Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned Western countries that Russia's aggression will not stop once it has conquered Ukraine because it will not satisfy Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In an interview with ABC World News Tonight with David Muir on Monday, Zelensky said that Ukraine "will come first. You will come second," in reference to Russia's military actions. He also described Putin as a beast that wants "more, more, and more" because he will never be satisfied.
Zelensky went on to warn Western countries that the ongoing conflict will not end in Ukraine and will have impacts throughout the world.
"Today, war is here. Tomorrow, it will be in Lithuania, then in Poland, then in Germany," the Ukrainian President said.
He urged the US and the Western countries to take action to "preserve" Ukraine and the rights and freedoms of its citizens which are being violated by the continued attacks by the Russian forces, CNN reported.
"Everyone thinks that we are far away from America or Canada. No, we are in this zone of freedom," Zelensky noted.
During the interview, Zelensky once again underscored that Ukraine's airspace should be secured, reiterating his calls for US and NATO to take action on Russia's continued attacks that already resulted to 406 deaths, including 27 children, and 801 people injured according to the United Nations, per NBC News report.
The 44-year old Ukrainian President said that Russia should not be allowed to be active because it is "bombing", shelling, and sending "missiles, helicopters, jet fighters, --- a lot of things" to his country, and the Ukrainian government already has lost control over its skies.
The Ukrainian President's remarks came as NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Friday outrightly rejected a no-fly zone over Ukraine, and warned that such a move could provoke widespread war in Europe with Russia.
Zelenskyy further said that he believes US President Joe Biden "can do more" to stop the war. "I am sure he can and I would like to believe that. He is capable of doing that," reported the media outlet quoting him.
Will the US Send Its Troops in Ukraine?
On February 26, the second day of the Russian invasion, the U.S. and NATO allies have sent 17,000 anti-tank missiles to war-torn Ukraine, as part of a $350 million military aid package agreement.
US President Biden and White House officials were discussing if they could send better fighter jets to Ukraine to help in its war. Under the proposed arrangement, Poland would hand over MIG fighter jets to Ukraine, which Ukrainian pilots were trained to operate. In exchange, the United States will replace the Soviet-era planes with new F-16 fighter airplanes per Daily Mail.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announced on Sunday that the plan had received a "green light". However, Poland dismissed it and said that they had not agreed to any proposal as Polish President Andrzej Duda raised concerns about the plan that could result in conflict with Russia.
Putin recently warned countries imposing a no-fly zone over Ukraine will be considered by Russia as participants in the ongoing conflict.
On Monday, the White House said Biden still will not send the US military to battle Russian forces in Ukraine.
