Authorities reported a pregnant 17-year-old teen was killed after being shot by a man who was "playing" with a pistol in Louisiana over the weekend.

Chad Blackard, 23, was in a moving car behind Karrington Smith at 6 pm. On Saturday in Baton Rouge, he took a pistol out of its holster and hung it on the passenger seat, according to an affidavit from the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office.

Man Brags About His Handgun and Accidentally Fires It

Chad Blackard is accused of bragging about how the pistol excelled in one of the vehicle's occupants' guns. The affidavit added that he then attempted to adjust the revolver when it "went off," according to the Advocate. Authorities said Blackard pressed the trigger while readjusting the firearm.

According to a sheriff's office spokeswoman, Casey Hicks, Blackard fired a single bullet from a semi-automatic handgun at Smith, hitting her in the back. The motorist pulled over to a nearby business and asked for help. Smith, who was 25 weeks pregnant at the time, was brought to the hospital, but she died along with her unborn child.

Deputies were dispatched to the 6100 block of Siegen Lane in Baton Rouge after the incident, where Blackard said he was "playing with his pistol" when it accidentally fired, as per Fox News.

Chad Blackard was allegedly fiddling with the pistol when it was fired, hitting the victim in the back. The accused continued to expel the magazine and gloat about how his pistol outperformed the gun possessed by one of the other occupants, according to homicide detectives.

He hooked his revolver and holster on the rear right passenger seat, which he had pulled from his side. He also said that when his rifle went off, he was attempting to relocate it.

According to authorities, the driver of the automobile pulled over into a neighboring parking lot to call for assistance. Blackard was arrested and charged with negligent homicide, third-degree feticide, and the unauthorized use of firearms in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

On the afternoon of Friday, February 25, two persons were killed and two more were injured in a drive-by shooting at the Mall of Louisiana. Donte Dorsey, 18, and Clifton Lindsey, 19, were slain in a "well planned" and "targeted" shooting on Bluebonnet Blvd, according to a spokesman for the Baton Rouge Police Department informed WAFB.

The shooter allegedly approached their vehicle and fired before fleeing in a second vehicle. "Today, we have witnessed yet another tragic event of gun violence strike the center of our community with a shooting... These acts of violence will not be accepted," East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome stated in a statement, Newsweek via MSN reported.
