Connie Nielsen's Lily Gray instantly went from love interest to psycho villain on last week's episode of "The Following." The fact she is both a Joe Carroll follower and Luke and Mark's mother is the biggest twist three episodes into the young season. However, last week's reveals have only cracked the surface of the mysterious Lily Gray.
"What you think is about to happen is not what [her] back story is," Nielsen said in a recent interview with TV Guide.com. "Every episode is going to be so full of switches and turns and things you just don't see happening. It's going to be a ride."
When it comes to the romantic aspect between the two, Nielsen told TV Guide her character may have felt something for Ryan - but she has always known where her head needs to be.
"I don't think she has any guilt whatsoever," Nielsen said according to TVGuide.com "I do think [she has] a little regret, however. I do think that she kind of liked him a lot. But she also knows who she is and what she's really like, so she also knew that that wouldn't be an option." You can read the entire interview here.
According to executive producer and writer Brett Mahoney's comments in the sneak preview of tonight's episode, Luke and Mark may not be Lily's biological sons.
"She's collected a group of discarded young people who she's raised in sort of a demented way," explains Mahoney.
Also in this episode, Ryan finally has the pleasure of meeting Gisele, so to speak.
"Ryan believes Gisele is some kind of a link to Lily and to Joe Carroll," Kevin Bacon, who plays Ryan Hardy, said during the sneak peek. Apparently hunting Gisele will be "A Family Affair" as Ryan's niece Max helps out. You can watch the sneak peek below.
"The Following" airs tonight at 9/8c on FOX after "Almost Human".
