Golden State Warriors star player Stephen Curry has sustained a sprained ligament in his left foot during a recent game against the Boston Celtics.

Though x-rays reportedly did not show any fractures or significant damage, he is out indefinitely, according to an NBA report.

The two-time NBA Most Valuable Player sustained the injury when he collided with Marcus Smart of the Celtics when the latter dove on the floor for a loose ball in the second quarter.

Curry had to check out for the rest of the game. The Warriors lost to the Celtics, 110-88.

Golden State coach Steve Kerr said Smart is a "hell of a player, gamer, a competitor," but he called Smart's dive "dangerous." While Warriors forward Juan Toscano-Anderson does not think that the collision was not a "dirty play," however he said Smart should have been more cautious.

Curry's injury happened 48 hours after his hardcourt reunion with Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. It was the Warriors' core trio's first time to play together after 1,005 days, as per CBS Sports.

"Warriors star Stephen Curry has been diagnosed with a sprained ligament in left foot that will sideline him indefinitely, sources tell @TheAthletic @Stadium. X-rays on the foot returned negative Wednesday night - meaning no fracture or major damage, a sigh of relief," Shams Charania reported via Twitter.

Klay Thompson didn't make his NBA comeback until January, and Draymond Green only recently returned after a two-month layoff. Both suffered injuries.

Golden State Warriors (47-23), as of present writing, are the third seed in the Western Conference standings and more likely to make it to the playoffs. However, losing Curry has a significant consequence on the team's rotation and rhythm of the three-time champs in preparation for the next round.

How Serious is Curry's Injury?

Curry is set to see specialists, and it is expected that he will return for the playoffs, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

According to Foot Hills Sports Medicine Physical Therapy," ligaments, which are similar to tendons in structure, are another commonly injured tissue." They support the joints by connecting bones.

Ligaments also serve as a guide in our body's movements at the same time preventing possible risky motions.

Some injuries in athletes may require surgery, while the less severe ones might not. The recovery period for mild ligament sprains is within two to four weeks. Major sprains may need around ten weeks to heal. If surgery is required, the recuperation duration increases from six months to a year.

Can Curry Make It to the Playoffs?

According to WebMD, the recovery time depends on the severity of the injury. It also differs from one person to another. "It may take just a few days for a slight sprain of an ankle to heal, or it may take months for a knee that needs surgery to reconstruct it.

The doctor or a physical therapist will more likely recommend Curry to rehabilitate the injury gradually and recommend certain exercises that can help speed up recovery at a "safe pace."

You can expect to regain full mobility for most mild to moderate sprains and strains within 3 to 8 weeks. More severe injuries can take months for a full recovery.

Hence, based on the reported findings, there is a big chance that Curry will play in the NBA Playoffs.
