No. 17 Virginia heads into Monday's contest looking for their eighth straight win. The Cavaliers' latest victory came in a rout on Saturday over Georgia Tech, 64-45. A big part of Virginia's success is due to their defense, which has kept opponents to just 51.0 points over the last five games, according to ESPN.
"That's what we try to do," Virginia sophomore guard Malcolm Brogdon said, via ESPN. "We try to be patient on offense and use 30 to 35 seconds, and ... we try to wear them down on defense. That's exactly the way we want to play. We think we have great depth and we're able to get after guys defensively."
Brogdon leads the team with 12.1 points per game, evidence of how Virginia's scoring is a total team effort.
Maryland, meanwhile, is unranked with a 14-10 record. The Terrapins have been uneven throughout much of the season, but they've won three of their last four games, including an 83-71 win on Saturday against Florida State.
"Seth Allen was on another level tonight," Terrapins coach Mark Turgeon said of the sophomore guard's career-best 32 points in Saturday's win. "He made some incredible shots. He played within himself most of the game and I was really proud of him."
Junior swingman Dez Wells leads the team with 15.2 points per game, and sophomore forward Charles Mitchell leads the rebounding efforts with 6.5 boards per game.
