With a funny Encanto spoof, James Corden parodied the Will Smith and Chris Rock Oscars dispute through song.
It all started at the Academy Awards on Sunday, when Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock in the face after he joked about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith's hair. Rock's actions have subsequently been described as "inappropriate and reprehensible" by King Richard star, who has made a public apology.
James Corden Makes Fun of Oscar Debacle
James Corden, a Gavin and Stacey comedian, took advantage of the occasion to poke light at the situation by covering the classic song "We Don't Talk About Bruno" from the Disney film Encanto. Corden met down with his producers on Monday night's Late Late Show to decide which notable moments from the Oscars to address on the program.
Following the slap, Will Smith issued a public apology, saying that Chris Rock's joke about his wife's alopecia had made him react "emotionally but violence in all its forms is poisonous and destructive." Smith has been condemned by the Academy, which has launched a formal investigation into his altercation with Rock during the Oscars ceremony, according to Metro.
Just days after her husband Will Smith assaulted Chris Rock at the Oscars, James Corden attacked Jada Pinkett Smith musically. The internet went crazy with the Carpool Karaoke host's TV take on Encanto, with others stating it caused them nightmares.
Fans were enraged by the ham-fisted take, which made its way to YouTube and Twitter. "Will Smith can't take a joke," the presenter told People on Monday, expressing his displeasure with the story.
James originally signed a contract with CBS in 2014; and in 2015, he took over as host of The Late Late Show from Craig Ferguson. His estimated net worth is $70 million, as per The Sun.
Jada Pinkett Smith Wants Healing
In her first social media post since her husband, Will Smith surprised the Academy Awards audience by slapping comedian Chris Rock following a joke about her hair on Sunday night, Jada Pinkett Smith called for a "season of healing."
Pinkett Smith, who responded to the joke by rolling her eyes and clasping her hands tightly in her lap, had previously talked openly about her alopecia diagnosis, documenting her struggle with the medical disease that causes hair loss on her Instagram account.
Many people called her husband's reaction to Rock's remark "toxic masculinity" while others said the actor was defending his wife's dignity. Others expressed their displeasure with the public exhibition of violence at the 94th Academy Awards, which drew over 15 million viewers. The academy stated after the event that it "does not condone violence in any form."
About 40 minutes after hitting Rock, Smith returned to the stage to accept his award for the best actor in a biopic for his role as Richard Williams, the father of tennis legends Venus and Serena Williams, in the film "King Richard." Smith sobbed and apologized to the academy and his fellow candidates for the slap during his acceptance speech, but he did not mention Rock by name, The Washington Post via MSN reported.
