Gilbert Gottfried, a comedian and actor most known for his shrill voice and roles in Aladdin, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and as the voice of the Aflac duck in commercials, died at the age of 67 after a protracted illness.
Gottfried's death comes only seven months after the deaths of Norm Macdonald, who died at the age of 61 in September 2021, Bob Saget, who died at the age of 65 in January, and Louie Anderson, who died at the age of 68 later that month.
Gilbert Gottfried's Cause of Death Revealed
His wife and two children survived the legendary comic. Gilbert Gottfried's family resorted to Twitter to inform his followers of his death. According to reports, the actor was suffering from recurrent ventricular tachycardia, which is produced by abnormal electrical signals in the lower chambers of the heart, caused by myotonic dystrophy type 2. Gilbert Gottfried's death was announced by his family on Tuesday via his Twitter account.
At the age of 15, Gottfried began doing stand-up comedy as a hobby. Born in Brooklyn, he was the son of a hardware shop owner. In the 1980s, he was a cast member of NBC's iconic show Saturday Night Live. He also did voiceover work for several children's television shows and films. After voicing the parrot Iago in Disney's 1992 animated picture Aladdin, he became a household name, according to Republic World.
Gilbert Gottfried's Twitter Account Was Hacked
Gilbert Gottfried's Twitter account was hacked and deleted just hours after his family announced his untimely death on social media. A slew of startling and indecent remarks emerged on his account on Tuesday, just hours after the Aladdin star's family posted about his passing.
Before Gilbert's whole account was temporarily erased, it looked like the tweets were uploaded by a hacker who took advantage of the situation to promote their own Twitter profile. Tweets promoting an amateur porn star's OnlyFans account, as well as links to a rapper's SoundCloud website, were among the obscene remarks.
The fake tweets, however, appear to have been removed, and the account appears to be back in the hands of the late comic's family. The account's statement of his death, which was posted this afternoon, is still available. Gilbert Gottfried's family tweeted a snapshot of the actor reaching out his hands and smiling before his Twitter account was hijacked.
Seinfeld star Jason Alexander posted a sorrowful message about Gilbert's death more than 15 minutes before his family acknowledged his death. Many others were taken aback by his post as they were only learning of the death at the time and it had not been announced anywhere else, as per The Sun.
The Comedian Expressed Support For Chris Rock
Gilbert Gottfried's farewell social media post was a supporting message to his comedy colleague Chris Rock following Will Smith's notorious attack on him at the Oscars last month. Gottfried, whose death at 67 was reported Tuesday, published a photo of himself and Rock, 57, on social media the day after the March 27 event.
Following Smith's slap of Rock in March, Gottfried spoke with The Associated Press, claiming the situation was serious while still cracking jokes about it. Before performing, the comedian stated he just had to worry about donning a mask, a reference to the coronavirus.
