On Monday, an entertainment lawyer testified that Amber Heard's op-ed harmed Johnny Depp's career.
Richard Marks, an expert witness, testified during the trial in which Depp is suing Heard, his ex-wife, for $50 million for an op-ed she penned in the Washington Post in 2018, detailing her experiences with domestic abuse.
Lawyer Claims Amber Heard Damaged Johnny Depp's Career
Marks was called as an expert witness in the trial and stated that he read a large number of documents, including the op-ed and depositions, before developing his judgment on the op-ed. Amber Heard's 2018 op-ed harmed Johnny Depp's career, according to a Hollywood lawyer. On May 2, 2022, Depp appeared in Fairfax County Circuit Court in Fairfax, Virginia.
Marks' remarks came during the fourth week of the trial's testimony. Despite Heard never specifically named him, the Pirates of the Caribbean star sued Heard, saying that the op-ed harmed his career and made it impossible for him to get film parts. Heard filed a countersuit for nuisance against Depp.
Marks also discussed how an actor's reputation might influence whether or not they are chosen by a corporation to feature in a film or serve as a spokesman during his testimony, as per Newsweek. Johnny Depp received $8 million for 'City of Lies,' a 2018 film about the investigations surrounding the killings of artists Biggie Smalls and Tupac Shakur. For the 2017 mystery Murder on the Orient Express, Depp was paid $10 million.
Depp was paid $13.5 million for 'Fantastic Beasts 2: Crimes of Grindelwald,' a spin-off from the 'Harry Potter' movie that was released in 2018 and starring Depp as Gellert Grindelwald. Depp made $3.5 million for 'The Professor,' a 2018 comedy-drama, and $1 million for 'Waiting for the Barbarians,' a 2019 version of the J.K. Rowling novel. According to Whigham, Depp got $3 million for the film Minimata, which was released in 2020.
Depp earned a total of $38 million for his performances between 2017 and 2020. Elaine Bredehoft, Heard's attorney, questioned Whigham's claims that the lucrative contract between Depp and Disney for the new picture was a done deal during cross-examination.
The fresh testimony lends credence to Depp's assertions that Heard's op-ed harmed his long-running Hollywood career. Richard Marks, an entertainment lawyer with decades of experience in Hollywood, also testified before the jury regarding his opinion of Heard's op-influence ed's on Depp's career, according to Daily Mail.
Security Guard Saw Amber Heard Punch Johnny Depp
Meanwhile, one of Johnny Depp's security guards claims that during their marriage Amber Heard punched the actor in the face. Travis McGivern testified in Depp's continuing defamation trial against his ex-wife via live video hookup on Monday. After they came home in March 2015 from Australia, where the notorious severed finger episode occurred, McGivern expounded on some of the disputes he witnessed between Depp and Heard.
A rather pleasant chat deteriorated into a louder and more violent argument, according to the security guard, who is still employed by Depp. Heard allegedly tossed a Red Bull can at Depp during the confrontation, prompting McGivern to approach Depp as the verbal barrage continued.
During cross-examination, Heard's lawyer asked if Depp was grabbing for Amber's hair when he was trying to beat her during the incident. McGivern called the attorney's account of the event inaccurate and questioned if Heard only hit Depp after he assaulted her sister that day. McGivern also disputed this, People reported.
