Virginia has extended emergency SNAP benefits for another month, which means that families in the state might receive hundreds of dollars in food and other necessities.
On Monday, May 16, just over a week before benefits were to be put onto users' EBT cards, the news was made. The COVID-19 pandemic prompted the government to declare a public health emergency, which resulted in the emergency benefits. The benefits must be renewed every month.

The Mountain State Card, West Virginia's version of the EBT card, is used to provide monthly assistance to qualified low-income households. The West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources, or DHHR, administers SNAP.
The West Virginia Mountain State Card works like a credit or debit card, allowing SNAP recipients to purchase qualifying food items at any participating merchant or producer industry. Both food for human consumption and seeds/plants for food production qualify. SNAP does not cover household items, grooming products, nicotine, alcohol, pet food, or hot prepared dishes that are ready to eat.
Cash beneficiaries can use their SNAP benefits to buy groceries and earn cashback (or withdraw money from a Quest ATM). The first three withdrawals are free each month. For each additional cash withdrawal, a $1 fee is charged from your WV WORKS account. Bank fees may apply while using ATMs.
Benefit amounts are determined after all deductions by household size and countable income. Families with an elderly or disabled member are frequently given special attention.
In some situations, West Virginia has a higher asset maximum and no gross income requirements. In some cases, additional shelter/utility costs, as well as medical expenses above $35 per month, can be subtracted.
Benefits are given based on the first letter of your last name for the first nine days of each month. Every month, cash benefits are distributed on the first calendar day, as per Go Banking Rates.

About Virginia SNAP Benefits
The increased SNAP payout is made possible by a public health emergency declaration, enabling government agencies to request a month-to-month extension of emergency allotment issuances.
As a result, this monthly approval procedure will decide the status of future emergency allocation benefits. Participants with issues about their SNAP benefits may contact their local department of social services or go to CommonHelp at commonhelp.virginia.gov to get account information.
