Republican Senator Rick Scott calls on President Joe Biden to resign for his handling of the inflation problem, claiming that the president is "unwell" and that it would be the "most effective" approach to deal with the crisis.

Scott's call for Biden to resign came on the same day that Biden was set to attack Scott and his 11 Point Plan to Rescue America - dubbed the ultra-MAGA plan by the White House. In a statement released before Biden's remarks Tuesday, Scott blamed Biden for inflation while also criticizing his mental acuity.

Based on the content of Biden's offer, White House fast response director Mike Gwin said Scott "doesn't have a leg to stand on." However, Scott and Republicans blame growing inflation on Biden and his initiatives, which include the COVID-19 law from last year, the student loan freeze, and others.

Scott Criticizes Biden's Gaffe, Some Policies

Many Senate Republicans, notably those in leadership, have taken issue with Scott's 11-point plan. Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, originally refused to preview any Senate GOP program if Republicans retake the chamber. Instead, he's focusing on Democrats and President Joe Biden.

After Scott's proposal was released, McConnell and several other Republicans slammed it as policy-wise incorrect, giving Democrats a target to attack ahead of the November elections, according to Fox News. Republicans routinely attack Biden's mental fitness for office. The commander-in-chief turns 80 in November and already is the oldest-ever US president.

After Biden made a series of gaffes during White House remarks on inflation, CBS News reporter Ed O'Keefe inquired about Scott. Biden mistook Scott's home state for Wisconsin at one point, claiming the Democrats "rule all three branches of government."

Scott criticized Biden after the White House used some of his policy positions to claim that if Republicans win this year's midterm elections, they will raise taxes by requiring everyone to pay some taxes and potentially letting programs like Social Security expire because all laws must be approved by Congress every five years.

The accusation was assessed as untrue by the Washington Post's fact check section, which gave Biden three 'Pinocchios' last month. However, Biden continued his assault on Tuesday, accusing Scott and other Republicans of following an "Ultra-MAGA" agenda, a reference to former President Donald Trump's "Make America Great Again" slogan, New York Post reported.

Sen. Rick Scott Invites Joe Biden to a Debate

Scott is now urging Biden to debate him in Florida, claiming that although the president can be wheeled up to the stage and deliver a speech from a teleprompter, Americans need a genuine discussion on the subject. The senator has emphasized that the proposal is his alone, and independent fact-checkers have pointed out that it isn't official GOP policy. Scott heads Senate Republicans' campaign arm and is a member of party leadership.

However, it hasn't prevented Democrats from attempting to bind the rest of the party to the agenda's divisive tax elements, causing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to publicly chastise Scott in March.

Other Senate Republicans did not immediately support Scott's request for Biden's resignation. Senator Lindsay Graham of South Carolina told Insider, "I'm focusing on the 2022 midterms," as per Business Insider.
