Experts are tearing apart long-held rumors that Prince Harry is not the son of Prince Charles and was instead fathered by one of Diana's ex-lovers.
Other conspiracy theorists believe that Prince Harry is not the son of Prince Charles, but rather of Diana and her ex-lover James Hewitt. While Hewitt denied the claim, it emerged from rumors of Diana meeting Hewitt while still married to Prince Charles.
Who Is Prince Harry's Real Dad?
According to rumors, Hewitt and Diana began their romance in 1986, when he was ordered to teach the Princess riding lessons as part of the Household Cavalry. Their romance allegedly lasted until 1991.
After Princess Diana confirmed and made public their romance in 1995, rumors about Hewitt being Prince Harry's biological father began to circulate. The most crucial denial, however, came from Hewitt himself, who stated that he was not acquainted with Diana when she became pregnant with Prince Harry in 1984.
Another crucial piece of evidence to debunk the plot came when a photographer published a 1957 shot of the late Prince Philip, Prince Harry's grandpa, highlighting their similarities.
Even Sarah Ferguson, Prince Harry's aunt, and Prince Andrew's ex-wife, attacked the speculations last year, saying she was "sick of hearing the accusations that James Hewitt is Prince Harry's biological dad." Sarah Ferguson was good friends with Diana, her sister-in-law.
According to The Daily Star, photos emerged last year demonstrating Prince Harry's resemblance to Prince Phillip, who died last year. A photographer remarked at the time that he couldn't believe the Duke of Edinburgh's resemblance to Prince Harry when sharing a 1957 issue of the Paris Match Magazine with Prince Philip on the cover, beaming in his navy uniform.
Princess Diana, James Hewitt Relationship
Princess Diana, who died in a vehicle accident in 1997, began an affair with Hewitt in 1986 after asking him to be her horse riding teacher. As rumors circulated that her husband, Charles, was having an affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles, whom he would ultimately marry, their covert friendship developed. Hewitt currently lives alone as a hermit in Devon, as per The News.
In 1995, Princess Diana admitted to having an affair with Hewitt on BBC Panorama. The incident occurred at a time when Prince Charles was widely suspected of cheating on Diana with his present wife, Camilla Parker-Bowles. However, the couple was pushed apart when Hewitt was assigned to serve in the Gulf War, before ultimately divorcing after their adultery was revealed in the media. Princess Diana and Prince Charles divorced four years later after they parted in 1992.
James Hewitt is a retired British Army household cavalry officer. The 62-year-old was born in Derry, Northern Ireland, but was raised in Kent and Devon before attending Millfield School in Somerset, one of the country's premier public institutions.
He attended the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and was commissioned as a second lieutenant into the Life Guards, a senior army unit, in 1978. He served as a Challenger tank commander in the Gulf War in 1991 but failed the major promotion exam three times. Hewitt left the Army after 17 years of service in March 1994 and founded a golf driving range, The Scottish Sun reported.
