Many T-Mobile users in the United States have reported experiencing issues and problems with service and connectivity starting around 12:30 p.m. today, with the outage seemingly geographically widespread across the East Coast.
Fortunately, not all customers are affected, and problems may be intermittent as T-Mobile announced that the origin of the issue was a power outage. Reports of the incident began to spike at around 12:15 p.m.and had customers complaining about having general connectivity issues and anecdotal reports of problems with trying to make calls, receiving or sending text messages, and problems with data connectivity.
T-Mobile Connectivity Issues
There were also confirmations that the issue of placing calls was a problem some subscribers in Massachusetts experienced. The locations of customers who made the reports include New York City, Boston, and Washington, D.C. A map of the reports indicated that the issues might be localized to the Northeast, which T-Mobile subsequently confirmed was the region that was most affected, as per Android Police.
The @TMobile and @T-MobileHelp Twitter accounts have also been responding to customers' questions regarding the problem and explaining that the company's employees were trying to fix the issues. From the conversations, the problem seemed partly outside of T-Mobile's hands.
The situation comes as recently, T-Mobile also had an issue with connectivity for LG phones on its network. The problem was resolved on May 23 and had entirely different symptoms, with certain LG phones on the carrier network providing an "LG IMS has Stopped" error message, seemingly tied to a change that was rolled out in T-Mobile's network.
The company also said it was already working on restoring service to all of its customers affected by the outage. The announcement comes after a flurry of T-Mobile users voiced their complaints on social media platforms, including Twitter.
According to 9to5Mac, some of the subscribers who had issues said that they were able to resolve the problems by rebooting their iPhones. However, the fix did not seem to work for all users, primarily due to the cause of the problem being a power outage.
Power Outage
The connectivity issues brought by the power outage are believed to have affected more than 4,500 customers on Tuesday. Many of the people who experienced this have panicked due to trying to catch up with work after the holiday weekend.
By around 3:45 p.m., the number of customers reporting issues with T-Mobile has dropped to around 650. The network became trending on Twitter as users went on the social media platform to see if anyone else was having issues with their mobiles.
One user said that they were assuming that there was another T-Mobile outage as their text messages kept coming back, a reference to the previous issue that the network faced. Another asked T-Mobile to fix their servers as they said they spent two to three hours without access to the internet. A resident from New York City was among those who confirmed the problem in the area by saying that they were unable to make calls or texts, Entrepreneur reported.
