Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo had a memorable game as he scored two points in Portugal's win over Switzerland 4-0 in the UEFA Nations League clash at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in Lisbon.

Following the scoring of Portugal's William Carvalho, Ronaldo, 37, scored his first goal in the 35th minute of the match between Portugal and Switzerland, per WION report.

After just four minutes, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner found himself on the scoresheet once more, as Portugal led 3-0 at the half-time break. Later, Joao Cancelo scored in the 68th minute as Portugal crushed the Swiss club.

Ronaldo pointed to the sky in celebration, just as he did when he scored his first goal for United after the heartbreaking death of his infant son in April.

In the stands, Cristiano Ronaldo mom Maria Dolores, was spotted crying tears of joy while wearing a Portugal shirt. She cried uncontrollably as her son scored 117 goals for Portugal at the stadium where he grew up, per The Mirror.

Where He Started Fulfilling His Boyhood Dream

The fact that the five-time Ballon d'Or winner's latest achievement happened at Sporting Lisbon's Estadio Jose Alvalade added to the drama. Ronaldo spent six years as a youngster with the Portuguese giants before moving to Old Trafford in 2003, when he was only 18 years old.

That summertime, United played Sporting in a friendly match to commemorate the opening of the Estadio Jose Alvalade, and it was the legendary game in which Sir Alex Ferguson's all-conquering club was defeated 3-1 and stunned by a crafty young winger in green and white. That youngster was Ronaldo, who is now the all-time leading goalscorer in men's international football,

After the Portugal-Switzerland bout, Ronaldo tweeted: "A very important victory in our journey, a lot of pride and confidence in this group, a lot of strength to give the Portuguese what we so desire: victories and convincing performances. It looks like the season is about to end, but really... this is just beginning!"

Ronaldo's Future

United's failure to qualify for next season's competition has put Cristiano Ronaldo on the outside looking in, but despite missing out on the Champions League and the expected knock-on consequences that imply the Ballon d'Or will be out of reach, he has shown no signs of leaving Old Trafford.

According to Manchester Evening News, Ronaldo's contract at United has at least one more year left on it, and if he stays as expected, he will be a key part of Erik ten Hag's plans for next season. The Dutchman has already referred to his center forwards as a "giant," and United would certainly rely on his scores once more.

It is now a question of if he will participate in the Europa League this season to add to his two outings in the UEFA Cup? For the time being, the answer should be no.

Ronaldo is at a point in his career when playing twice a week is not advisable, particularly in a year that includes a winter World Cup, where he will be determined to help Portugal go further in the tournament.

He added to his record in the Nations League match against Switzerland on Sunday, scoring his 116th and 117th international goals, and adding to that tally in Qatar wil be a given for sure.
