The select committee investigating the US Capitol riot is set to begin laying out evidence Thursday night that former President Donald Trump helped lead a systematic campaign to avoid his electoral defeat, culminating in the historic insurgency.
According to reports, the committee intends to investigate the activities of right-wing extremists such as the Proud Boys, a nationwide organization that helped throng the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, as Congress tried to validate President Joe Biden's victory.
Jan. 6 Committee Begins First Hearing
Men carrying Arizona flags and donning camouflage and characteristic blaze orange hats connected with the organization were among the most visible pictures of a day that shocked the country. It is just one of many Arizona strands flowing through an inquiry that many consider an important warning about American democracy but is characterized as political warfare by Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz.
Biggs participated in White House planning discussions to keep Trump in power and disseminate the false narrative of a stolen election. He is one of the Republicans who has refused to help with the investigation. Rep. Debbie Lesko chastised Democrats for indulging in the political theater after reports that she anticipated supporters of then-President Donald Trump to go crazy on the day of the riot.
According to USA Today, recordings obtained Wednesday by New York Times reporters Jonathan Martin and Alexander Burns, Lesko, R-Ariz., informed congressional leaders the day before the Jan. 6, 2021, riot that Trump's ultimate defeat would cause issues.
A big projection screen is shown, which will display video exhibits while the House Select Committee probing the Jan. 6 assault on the United States conducts its investigation. On Thursday, June 9, 2022, the Capitol holds its first public hearing to present the findings of a year-long study.
The hearing will include testimony from US Caroline Edwards, a Capitol Police officer who was critically injured during the siege, and documentary filmmaker Nick Quested, who documented members of the far-right Proud Boys as they invaded the Capitol.

Trump Calls Capitol Attack "Greatest Movement" in US History
The hearings came as legislators convened to finalize the 2020 presidential election, nearing the end of a nearly yearlong inquiry into the Capitol attack. The panel of seven Democrats and two Republicans questioned over 1,000 people and subpoenaed prominent officials of Trump's administration, while Trump's loyalists battled the process tooth and nail.
The hearings will prohibit a clear public image of the Jan. 6 catastrophe, according to Rep. Adam Schiff, because most of the investigation work was done behind closed doors (D-Calif.), New York Daily via MSN News reported. Former President Donald Trump is now declaring that his followers' violent attack on the Capitol was "not merely a protest," but rather "the largest movement" in US history.
On Thursday, Trump delivered an explosive statement supporting the rioters who sacked the Capitol in the hopes of keeping him in the White House for a second term. It emerged on his own Truth Social website, which he began using earlier this year since he is banned from Twitter and other mainstream social media platforms.
The twice-impeached ex-president also claimed that the House select committee did not spend a single minute investigating why people flocked to Washington, DC, even though a group of committee investigators has been looking into the relationship between the lies he began telling about the conduct of the 2020 election and the riot that occurred on January 6, 2021, as per Independent.
