Governor Kathy Hochul announced today that for June, all New Yorkers participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program would receive the maximum amount of food assistance. This month, all SNAP families, even those currently receiving the maximum level of benefits, will get a supplementary allocation, resulting in a $234 million influx of federal funds into the New York State economy.
The increased benefits should be available to SNAP households in all counties outside of New York City between June 10 and June 17. According to WROC Rochester via MSN, households in the five-county New York City region should have their benefits deposited between June 17 and June 30.

A recent survey reveals that roughly 14 percent of the state's population relied on SNAP assistance last year, making these benefits a key lifeline for New Yorkers in need. In April 2020, OTDA began distributing additional emergency payments to SNAP households receiving less than the maximum monthly benefit amount. When New York State's emergency declaration expired in June 2021, the agency successfully collaborated with the federal government to obtain the maximum amount for all SNAP households until the federal declaration expired, which is currently anticipated to be extended until October.
Payments will be distributed directly to users' current Electronic Benefit Transfer accounts and may be accessed with their existing EBT cards, as in previous months. Supplemental payments, like normal SNAP benefits, can be used to buy food at designated retail food outlets. Any unused SNAP benefits will be carried over to the next month, Governor reported.
