Hunter Biden's longstanding business associate Eric Schwerin managed almost every facet of the family's financial dealings, according to the disgraced first son's ex-wife.

Kathleen Buhle, Hunter Biden's ex-wife, broke her silence in recent days, appearing on mainstream news outlets to promote her upcoming memoir release 'If We Break,' but avoiding Biden family controversies proved difficult for Buhle, who sat down with CBS' senior culture correspondent Anthony Mason to detail her life with Hunter.

The interview, which aired early Thursday on CBS Mornings, went into Buhle's life as a Biden and her marriage to Hunter before delving into his questionable business operations.

Hunter Biden's Ex-Wife Isn't Involved in Finances

Buhle, who was married to the president's son from 1993 until 2017, said she was unaware of any wrongdoing, even though a subpoena received by CBS News indicated back records requests extending back to 2014 - while the pair was still married.

"I had my head pretty deeply buried in the sand," she said, later claiming she "barely understood" what Hunter had done.

Hunter's laptop, which had been virtually overlooked by the media until recently, sparked suspicion after being dropped off at a Delaware repair shop in 2019. The dispute has now erupted, triggering calls for a special counsel.

In response to a query about being subpoenaed, Buhle stated that even if she was, she would have nothing to add due to the previously mentioned lack of comprehension. Mason questioned Buhle further, asking whether she had been subpoenaed, to which she said that she had not, according to Fox News.

Kathleen Buhle, who wrote about her traumatic 24-year marriage in her memoir 'If We Break': A Memoir of Marriage, Addiction, and Healing, described meeting Hunter Biden's business partner Eric Schwerin at a cocktail party in the Dominican Republic.

According to Buhle, Eric Schwerin handled practically every element of their financial life, making their relationship unpleasant. The discovery offers additional insight into Schwerin's ties with Hunter Biden, who is under federal investigation for alleged tax evasion arising from his international business operations.

Even though Schwerin has not been charged with any crimes, House Republicans want him to give over records that they say link the president to the business links. Schwerin, the former president of Rosemont Seneca Partners, an investment firm created by Hunter Biden and several colleagues that explored business transactions in Russia, Romania, Ukraine, and China, might be called to testify if Republicans win control of Congress in the 2022 midterm elections.

When the president has stated that he is not involved in any of his son's enterprises, Republicans point out that Schwerin visited the White House and other official places 27 times while Joe Biden was vice president, New York Post reported.

Kathleen Buhle Discusses Life With Hunter Biden in Memoir

The United States Attorney's Office in Delaware opened an investigation into Hunter Biden's taxes and business practices in 2018. CBS News obtained a subpoena that revealed bank document requests stretching back to 2014, while he and Buhle were still married.

Buhle stated that she was unaware of her family's money and relied on Hunter Biden to handle them. Buhle stated that she had spoken with investigators but had not been called before a grand jury.

She met Hunter Biden in 1992 when both were serving for the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. They married the next year and had three children, Naomi, Finnegan, and Maisy.

Hunter Biden's alcoholism worsened when he entered a treatment facility in 2003. Buhle mentions uncovering proof of her ex-drug husband's usage at their house in her book, including a crack pipe she claims she discovered after his brother Beau Biden died in 2015.

Hunter Biden had lost his best buddy, Beau Biden, to brain cancer, and Buhle had lost her closest ally. Buhle predicted that Hunter Biden would soon realize that he had cheated on her with countless women.

When their then-18-year-old daughter, Finnegan, contacted Buhle to come to the family therapist's house, it was the tipping point. Her daughters said at the time that they discovered texts on his phone confirming he was having an affair with Beau Biden's widow, Hallie Biden.

Buhle also discusses her struggle with stage 3 colon cancer in her memoir, which she was diagnosed with less than a year after filing for divorce. Despite their divorce, she claimed she still sees the Bidens at family gatherings and is looking forward to her eldest daughter's wedding at the White House in November. Naomi Biden will marry Peter Neal on November 19, as per CBS News.
