Ukraine War: UK Defense Reveals Russia’s Major Weakness Amid Invasion

According to authorities, Russian aircraft cannot achieve complete air superiority, must operate in a risk-averse manner, and seldom reach deep inside Ukrainian lines.

Russia's air force has so far underperformed in Russian President Vladimir Putin's invasion of Ukraine, helping to equalize the battlefield for ground troops as the action turns to the east four months into the war, the British defense minister said this week.

UK Reiterates Support for Ukraine

At the start of the invasion, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy repeatedly called for a no-fly zone to be implemented by the US and NATO partners, but he has since abandoned those requests. Over the last four months, the United States and NATO partners have given Ukraine billions of dollars in military aid.

More than 1,400 Stinger anti-aircraft systems, as well as Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems, anti-armor weaponry, helicopters, tactical vehicles, and other munitions, were included in the new $700 million weapons package. Aside from Western support, the UK blamed Russia's poor performance on heavily scripted air combat training focused on impressing senior officials rather than encouraging dynamic initiative among air soldiers.

Last week, UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited Kyiv for the second time since the war began, promising to back the Ukrainian army against Russia. In a statement to his troops last month, British Army Chief General Sir Patrick Sanders again emphasized the UK's support for Ukraine, according to Fox News.

Ukrainian forces assaulted Chornomorneftegaz drilling rigs at about 8 am on Monday, Crimea's leader, Sergei Aksyonov, claimed in a video message on Telegram. In a frantic attempt to save the employees, Aksyonov stated he was in contact with the Russian Ministry of Defense and the FSB.

When the platform was hit, there were 12 people on it; five were rescued, three were injured, and the search for the others continues. The rescue mission is being led by the Ministry of Defence, with patrol boats and planes taking part.

Russia Renews Efforts To Advance Military in Ukraine

According to video evidence, Russia lost its sixth ammo storage in a fortnight when Ukrainian forces blew up a warehouse in the Kharkiv region. A Russian facility is recorded from many perspectives in a video released on social media, erupting into a blaze as Ukrainian troops successfully strike their objective.

The Ukrainian 40th Separate Artillery Brigade in Kharkiv Oblast carried out the strike. Several more explosions in the last two weeks have rendered thousands of weapons systems, and ammo rounds inoperable for Vladimir Putin's army as Russia seeks to resume its drive-in Ukraine's east.

The Kremlin has issued terrifying warnings to ex-Soviet neighbors Lithuania and Kazakhstan, threatening them with military action as a result of their recent actions toward Russia. On Saturday, NATO member Lithuania became the focal point of tensions between Russia and the military alliance by prohibiting the transit of EU-approved products across its territory to and from the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad.

The Kremlin characterized the measure as "openly unfriendly" and warned that if the ban is not withdrawn shortly, it will take action. To protest the ban, Russia's foreign ministry summoned Lithuania's senior ambassador to Moscow, Express reported.

Russia is likely to have intensified its efforts to move south of the eastern city of Izyum in the previous 48 hours, according to the UK Ministry of Defense (MoD). Its objective is to advance farther into the Donetsk area and encircle the besieged city of Severodonetsk from the north.

It goes on to say that Ukrainian citizens stuck in the city are likely to be wary of using humanitarian corridors recommended by rebels and Russian authorities because Russia has a history of exploiting these corridors to enforce involuntary population transfers.

According to the MoD, if stranded Ukrainian civilians do not accept an offer to leave via a corridor, Russia will likely claim justification for drawing less distinction between them and any Ukrainian military objectives in the region, as per BBC.
