A Bronx woman and her teenage son have been arrested for the brutal death of a seven-year-old girl who was tortured, beaten, and sexually raped while in their care.

According to an NYPD spokeswoman, Navasia Jones, 36, and her 17-year-old son Paul Fine, Jr. of Brooklyn were charged with the murder and manslaughter of Julissa Batties. Julissia's parents were fighting over custody of her, and she had been living with her grandmother.

As per Crime Online, officers attended to the property six times in three years, with the final contact in March 2020. Jones is said to have covered for her son in one of those situations. Recordings reveal the moment of the dead girl screaming and pleading with her grandmother not to return to her mother's house for a court-ordered visit. Jones allegedly lost custody of her daughter at birth, as well as her four boys, due to abuse and neglect.

Batties was murdered two months after the Administration for Children's Services let her return to her mother's house alone.

"I didn't kill my daughter, b***h," reporters were allegedly screamed at as she was brought from the 40th Precinct station house.

Davis stated that Jones has seven other children and that the city had taken each of her seven children away from her at some time, according to a report.

Jones and Fine have been charged with murder, manslaughter, and endangering a child. Fine Jr., was charged with assault and sexual abuse while Jones was charged with failing to exercise control over a juvenile. Officers from New York City's 40th Precinct apprehended Jones and Fine, Jr. at 9:30 am on Wednesday.

Jones is now facing accusations of murder, manslaughter, endangering a child, and failing to exercise control over a child. Her teenage son is accused of homicide, sexual assault, and endangering a child.

Jones has claimed that her daughter, Julissa Batties, died after falling and striking her head on a desk on the night of Aug. 10. Jones's son, 18-year-old Paul Fine, revealed to detectives a day after Julissia's murder that he had repeatedly hit his sister before her death, believing she had stolen some snacks.

According to the city's medical examiner's office, Julissia died of 'blunt force abdominal injuries,' and the case was deemed a homicide, as previously reported by The Daily Beast. Jones and Fine have both been charged with murder and manslaughter; Fine has also been charged with child sexual abuse. "Everyone was let down by the system," Julissia's father, Julius, said to reporters on Wednesday, adding that he was ready for justice to be delivered.

Julissia's grandmother, Yolanda Davis, who had cared for her granddaughter, awaited this moment of justice.

"Our main focus is preserving the safety and well-being of all children in New York City," stated an ACS spokeswoman at the time. "We are investigating this situation with the NYPD," Daily Mail reported.
