California will soon be issuing "inflation relief" checks of up to $1,050 to around 23 million households, owing to a budget settlement negotiated over the weekend by Gov. Gavin Newsom and state lawmakers.

As inflation continues to rise and motorists face higher gas prices, states throughout the country are searching for measures to mitigate the economic impact. Some have put the state gas tax on hold, while others are looking into it.

Since the outbreak, the federal government has provided three waves of stimulus checks: up to $1,200 beginning in April 2020, up to $600 beginning in December 20201, and up to $1,400 beginning in March 2021.

Are There Remaining Stimulus Checks in 2021?

When the pandemic arrived in March 2020 and created an instant economic collapse, the federal government required stimulus checks for the majority of Americans. Checks were distributed once again in late 2020, and once more in the spring of 2021.

Zachary Parolin, a research scientist at Columbia University's Center on Poverty & Social Policy-an group that strongly supports stimulus and child tax credits-also spoke with CNBC on the matter, stating that the pandemic-era stimulus accomplished its intended goal.

The question now is whether the government would consider more stimulus payments sensible, especially since the prior stimulus was viewed as contributing to inflation. Although recession conditions have not yet officially arrived, the White House has not suggested that further direct stimulus is being considered, National Interest reported.
