According to authorities, a mass shooting during a Fourth of July parade in the Chicago neighborhood of Highland Park, Illinois, on Monday left six people dead and roughly 24 more with significant injuries.

Police in Highland Park are still looking for the shooter, a male between the ages of 18 and 20. According to authorities, it appears the shooter shot from a roof from where a strong weapon was found.

According to Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek, six victims - all adults - died at a hospital, and five died at the scene. The NorthShore University Health System reported a total of 31 patients; the majority had gunshot wounds, while a few others were harmed in the commotion. According to Highland Park Fire Chief Joe Schrage, at least one child has serious injuries.

Near Green Bay Road and Second Street, in the area of Central Avenue, police could be seen searching roofs. Numerous police officers and firefighters participated in the parade. Soon after the shooting started, cops approached the high sniper, making him stop and go away.

He claimed that 19 of the patients received treatment and were then freed. According to Temple, several of the remaining patients had severe and dangerous ailments. He said that several of them were taken to nearby trauma hospitals.

Manhunt, Investigation Continue

Per NBC News, participants in the parade were asked to visit the Highland Park Police Department to be reunited with friends and family members with whom they might have lost contact. After the shooting, those who had come out to celebrate the Fourth of July before fleeing for their life left behind abandoned camping chairs, US flags, plastic cups, and other things that littered the parade route.

Following their escape from the street, onlookers were escorted out of buildings by SWAT forces, according to Lake County Deputy Chief Christopher Covelli. He said that the manhunt and investigation encompassed hundreds of federal, state, and local law enforcement personnel.

According to the Justice Department, Merrick Garland, the attorney general, received a briefing on the incident and the inquiry. Local officials received assistance from the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives.

Rep. Brad Schneider, a Democrat from Illinois, claimed that the gunfire began as he and staff members were assembling at the parade's beginning. Everyone is safe, he remarked. Almost 30,000 people are residents of Highland Park home, which is located on Lake Michigan about 25 miles north of Chicago.

The tree-shaded boulevard with stone pathways heading into the town's center is lined with clothing boutiques, restaurants, and gift shops. Above caution tape and rows of police vehicles, a giant American flag was flying, USA Today reported.
