The advent of China as an artificial intelligence superpower utilizes US firms to augment their Research and Development as a means to get ahead. All these developments will help Beijing leapfrog and eventually overcome the US using AI.

China Prioritizes Overtaking the US in AI Technology

Fueling the zoom of China as an AI powerhouse is its strictest competitor, the United States, which has made a huge impact, reported EurAsian Times.

China's AI core business is expected to grow from 199.8 billion yuan ($29.89 billion) in 2021 to more than 600 billion yuan ($89.76 billion) in 2026 at an annual increase of 24.8 percent.

An Hui, China Center for Information Industry Development's deputy chief engineer, stated during a concurrent forum of the 6th World Intelligence Congress that China has filed for more than 50% of the AI patents in the world and has been granted 6% of those patents.

Previously, it was disclosed that China could decide party loyalty among its citizens by implementing automation, noted Asian Financial.

But claims by the US that the tech is theirs are based on a new report published by the Center for Security in Emerging Technology (CSET). Chinese leadership in this field by 2030 in AI is proceeding via chips developed by US firms.

The report claims that during the past five years, China has achieved substantial advancements in artificial intelligence superpower uses it to combat and support roles.

According to Chinese military researchers, the AI-based anti-hypersonic defense system can predict the trajectory of a hypersonic glide vehicle as it approaches a target.

The PLA's use of advanced AI in several fields requires access to semiconductor AI chips for precise machine learning systems. Most of these AI chips are made by US tech firms in or abroad in the United States.

Outsourcing Production of US-Made Chips

Asian firms like Samsung (SoKor) and the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (Taiwan) are where these chips are made.

Taiwan, a self-governing island state, presumed that a Chinese invasion was just a matter of time despite China's increasing hostility toward it.

A quarterly academic journal published by the US Army War College previously recommended Taiwan decimate its semiconductor industry if China tried to invade the country.

Taiwan wants more options for its chip industry in countries that would assist it against China. But, it has been benefiting China instead.

Advanced artificial intelligence programs are powered by American Nvidia GPUs, which are the market leader in semiconductors.

The Chinese government has invested in making chips of their own, but according to a report, some aspects like expert knowledge and specialized equipment that their firms lack.

Most of the semiconductor industry is based in Asia, with the US tech firms about 47% of worldwide sales, South Korea (19%), Japan (10%), Europe (10%), Taiwan (6%), last China (5%).

The US government is asking for money from Congress to develop chips at $52 billion in the US. It hasn't prevented the Chinese military from obtaining chips through a range of channels, such as purchases through Chinese intermediaries and, in some cases, the forming of shell companies.

China and its rise to an artificial intelligence superpower also tapped US firms that ironically helped bring Beijing's dominance to the fore.
