Simona Halep delivered another unstoppable performance at this year's Wimbledon as she beat American Amanda Anisimova, 6-2, 6-4, on Wednesday to advance into the semi-final round.
According to Reuters, the 2019 champion provided value for money to the spectators who paid 175 pounds ($208) for a Centre Court ticket as she defeated a shell-shocked Anisimova in one hour and three minutes to advance to her third semi-final at the All England Club.
The American was left dumping racket after racket into her red bag as she was broken for the fourth time to trail 4-1 in the second set after Halep had won the first set thanks to Anisimova's long serve return.
The 30-year-old Halep was broken while serving for the set at 5-1, and when she tried again at 5-3, Anisimova had her 0-40 down.
But after taking a couple of heavy shots to the thigh at a deficit of 15-40, Halep's legs started moving once again, and the 16th seed won when Anisimova mishit a backhand long.
Return to Wimbledon Semis
Halep said she feels "great to be back in the semi-finals." "I am very emotional right now - it means a lot. I played a tough opponent today, she can crush the ball and I didn't know what to do. But I believed in myself, and I had to stay there strong on my legs - they helped me today."
The Romanian affirmed that her current tennis performance is the best since she won the Wimbledon title, per Eurosport. "I struggled a lot last year and I am just trying to build my confidence back."
"I am starting to do that and it is good. The crowd gives me a lot of energy," Halep added.
After the 2020 Australian Open, two-time major champion Halep will compete in her maiden Grand Slam semi-final.

Rybakina reaches First Grand Slam Semi-final
Elena Rybakina overcame Tomljanovic after a rocky start and became the first player from Kazakhstan to go to the final four of a Grand Slam.
After having trouble in the opening set, Rybakina proceeded to find her stride and, at one point, won seven games in a row to take the second set and take charge of the third.
If she had not changed her allegiance from Russia four years prior, the 23-year-old would not have been allowed to compete at this year's Wimbledon. She closed the set with an ace, making it her 15th of the match.
"It's amazing and I'm really happy that I got through after a really tough match," Rybakina expressed.
Sportstar reported that the tennis star admitted her opponent "played really well, was defending really well," which somehow rattled her, which explained Rybakina's final set wobble after serving for it at 5-1.
"I just tried to focus on myself to find my way and then I found it," she said.
Rybakina struggled to showcase again the serving power and accuracy that had been a hallmark of her march into the last eight, failing to land almost half her first deliveries in the opening set.
She broke early in the second, and though Tomljanovic's athletic court coverage enabled her to hit straight back, the tall Kazak took total command, breaking to love before winning the set on the back of 11 straight points.
Elena Rybakina will go head-to-head with Simona Halep, who now collaborates with Serena Williams' past coach Patrick Mouratoglou, in the semi-finals.
