Five people were shot in an apparent robbery attempt at a senior citizens club in Indiana on Wednesday night, CBS News reported.
According to authorities, a gunman entered the Safe and Sound Senior Citizen Club in Gary around 11:30 p.m., flashed his weapon, and ordered everyone to get down on the floor.
By the time officers arrived, four men -- ages 76, 65, 45, and 43 -- were shot, in addition to the 23-year-old gunman, although it is unknown if his gunshot wound was self-inflicted or not. A report in ABC News said a patron shot the gunman.
"When he came in, he ... told everybody to get on the floor, and he had a gun. He was armed with a weapon, so that sounds like the fruits of a robbery," said Gary Police Cpl. Gabrielle King.
The four men the gunman injured were rushed to Methodist Hospitals Northlake Campus. On Thursday morning, hospital officials said three of the men were in stable condition while the fourth man was airlifted to Loyola University Medical Center, in critical condition.
The gunman, whose name has not been released, was also treated at Methodist and then taken into police custody.
It is unknown how many people were inside the club at the time of the shooting.
In 2011, the Gary social club was raided twice by authorities for serving liquor without a license. Additionally, the club's owner was arrested during one of the raids for promoting illegal gambling.
Last year, a 66-year-old Detroit man was arrested for fatally shooting two women inside of the senior citizen home he was living in.
