Jonathan Sapirman, 20, has been named as the suspect in the Indiana mall shooting that left three people dead and two more wounded. According to authorities, Sapirman, a resident of Greenwood, was slain after firing shots in the Greenwood Park Mall on Sunday night.

Pedro Pineda, 56; Rosa Mirian Rivera de Pineda, 37; and Victor Gomez, 30, were the three unassociated victims who perished in the incident. They were all residents of Indianapolis.

Indiana Mall Shooting Suspect's Motive Remains Unclear

The Pinedas were a married couple, the Johnson County Coroner's Office confirmed, WISH reported. Minutes after the 20-year-old fired shooting, bystander Elisjsha Dicken, 22, of Bartholomew County, Indiana, shot and killed Sapirman with a long rifle.

Sapirman had a juvenile record but no adult criminal history, according to Greenwood Police Chief Jim Ison, who claimed his motivation was yet unknown. At the mall, Sapirman had three firearms with him, according to The Independent.

He had purchased an M&P 5.56mm rifle in March, a Sig Sauer Model M400 5.56mm rifle a year prior, and he had also brought a Glock 33 handgun. Sapirman, according to Ison, had more than a hundred rounds of ammo. Sapirman used the Sig Sauer gun during the shooting, he continued.

The 20-year-old guy who started shooting at an Indiana mall on Sunday night took two guns into the establishment and waited inside a restroom for more than an hour before killing three people, including a married couple, and injuring two more, according to officials.

Prior to entering the food court and firing his Sig Sauer weapon, the suspected gunman spent around an hour and two minutes in a restroom close to the food court of the Greenwood Park Mall. Within two minutes, he was "neutralized," but not before shooting five people, including a 12-year-old who survived and three others who died, Ison said on Monday.

Two persons, including the shooter, were confirmed dead at the scene. Two more people were sent to a hospital in Indianapolis but were unable to be rescued. Officials have stated that they think the suspected gunman had two firearms, one of which was disassembled, in his bag as he headed to the mall.

Cops Praise Good Samaritan's "Life-Saving Response"

The alleged shooter had a "waistband holster on with several magazines," a second gun in a backpack, a "broken down" rifle that he left in the bathroom, and "several rounds of ammunition," according to investigators. They also discovered that the Sig Sauer was purchased on March 8, 2022, in Greenwood.

Around 4:54 p.m., the gunman entered the mall from a doorway close to the food court, according to Ison. When Pedro and Rosa Pineda were enjoying dinner in the food court, the gunman reportedly "pointed his weapon into the food court and shot both Rosa and Pedro."

The shooter then carried on firing shots, wounding a 22-year-old lady in the leg, according to Ison. One of the shooter's bullet pieces also hit a 12-year-old girl "who was fleeing" after ricocheting off one of the walls. At 5:57 p.m., a legally armed "good Samaritan" named Elisjsha Dicken opened fire with a handgun just two minutes after the accused attacker started his attack. Dicken and his girlfriend had been out shopping.

The shooter allegedly discharged 24 bullets. Ison said Dicken fired 10 shots. Ison praised Dicken once more for his life-saving response. His cellphone, which was wet because the suspected shooter "put his cellphone in the toilet," is being examined by FBI forensic experts.

In the hours after the shooting, police went to the suspect's house as well. When they arrived, Ison said, they discovered "the oven was on" and "a laptop in the oven with a can of butane." He said that there was a notice of eviction displayed. The suspected shooter attended Greenwood High School, went on to work, then quit his employment in May, as per Fox News.
