Sportscaster Dale Hansen spoke candidly on his show this week concerning NFL officials' anti-LGBT comments on Michael Sam's coming out as gay.
The Dallas sports journalist gave his two cents on a recent segment of "Dale Hansen Unplugged" regarding the former Missouri standout's announcement.
In the clip, Hansen chides the NFL officials who told Sports Illustrated a gay player wouldn't be welcome in the locker room because it might make others "uncomfortable."
The award-winning sportscaster calls out a multitude of crimes and felonies committed by NFL players in the past, then compares those "accepted" footballers to Sam.
"Players accused of rape, and pay the woman to go away, you lie to police, trying to cover up a murder, we're comfortable with that," Hansen says on camera. "You love another man: well, now, you've gone too far."
He also draws comparisons between homosexual and racial segregation in sports.
"It wasn't that long ago when we were being told that black players couldn't play in 'our' games because it would be 'uncomfortable,'" Hansen says. "And even when they finally could, it took several more years before a black man played quarterback."
Hansen's commentary has now gone viral, amid a sea of opinions, think pieces and interviews concerning the FCC Defensive Player of the Year's coming out.
If he is drafted, Sam could be the first openly gay player in the NFL.
He is currently a 3rd to 5th round draft pick.
