Stimulus Check 2022: Which States Provide Money for Residents Until the End of the Year?
A number of states have either approved laws or are considering ideas to provide people with supplementary stimulus checks. Check our list here! Chip Somodevilla

Multiple sources indicated only last month that the Biden administration is contemplating two possibilities as the official stimulus package in response to rising gas prices. According to the Washington Post, President Joe Biden will decide on a gas tax holiday before the end of the week after the Juneteenth holiday weekend.

A month later, though, there has been no action on stimulus checks for rising gas costs. Any plan for pump relief will have a difficult time getting past Congress right now. Nonetheless, several governments have taken matters into their own hands, giving immediate help to their populations.

Stimulus Checks in States

Although the federal government is unlikely to provide any stimulus checks in 2022, several states have begun to issue their own. Here's what you should know:

California

According to CBS News, California residents will get up to $1,050 in stimulus checks to help with inflation alleviation. These payments will be made from the $308 billion state budget passed by Gov. Gavin Newsom earlier this month.

Colorado

State residents who submitted their 2021 tax returns by June 30 will receive a little bonus in September. According to Colorado Department of Revenue, individuals will receive $750, while joint filers will receive $1,500. Filers who received an extension and filed by Oct. 17 will be paid by Jan. 31, 2023.

Delaware

Due to a budget surplus, Delaware began issuing relief rebate payments of $300 to taxpayers who filed a return in 2020 in May. The majority of Delawareans got these reimbursements in May, and couples filing jointly might earn $300 apiece.

Georgia

Gov. Brian Kemp signed legislation to provide rebate payments of $250 for single taxpayers, $375 for heads of household, and $500 for joint filers. This stimulus program was also funded by a state budget surplus.

Hawaii

Residents whose income in 2021 is less than $100,000, or $200,000 for joint filers, will receive a $300 tax credit this year. The incentive will also be available to dependents. Residents earning more than $100,000, or $200,000 if filing jointly, will get a one-time $100 cheque. According to Hawaii's Department of Taxation, payments might be paid out as early as late August.

Idaho

Gov. Brad Little signed legislation in February that will award each taxpayer $75 or a percentage of their 2020 state income tax return, whichever is larger. In March, checks began to be distributed.

Illinois

Beginning July 1, the state passed a $1.83 billion assistance package. The package includes tax breaks for income and property owners, as well as a short-term reduction in sales taxes. Individuals earning less than $200,000 in 2021 will receive a $50 income tax rebate, while joint filers earning less than $400,000 would receive a $100 rebate, according to CNET. Checks are expected to be distributed starting the week of September 12 and ending eight weeks later.

Indiana

Indiana began issuing $125 payments to all citizens, regardless of income, in May. This is part of the state's automatic taxpayer refund statute, as per The Indianapolis Star. Governor Eric Holcomb is also encouraging state legislators to increase the stimulus package by $225.

Maine

Maine has begun delivering up to $850 in relief checks to households after the state's budget swung into excess. To get a check, all Maine residents need to do is submit a 2021 income tax return as full-time residents of the state by Oct. 31, 2022.

New Jersey

Gov. Phil Murphy has proposed allocating $53 million for $500 rewards to taxpayers who use a taxpayer identification number rather than a Social Security number when filing their taxes. This is in addition to the fall 2021 budget approval by Murphy and the state assembly, which contained $500 payments for 1 million New Jersey citizens.

New Mexico

Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham signed legislation in early March that would provide people with a $250 rebate if they earned less than $75,000 a year, as well as a $500 reimbursement for all citizens. The $250 refunds will be distributed this month, while the $500 payout will be distributed in two installments, one in June and the other in August.

Oregon

According to the Oregon Department of Revenue, about 236,000 low-income Oregon individuals who worked during the pandemic will get $600 payouts. Residents must have claimed the state's Earned Income Tax Credits (EITC) on their 2020 personal income tax returns and lived in Oregon for the final six months of 2020 to be eligible for these payments.

Pennsylvania

The state established the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program in July, creating a $121.7 million fund to be distributed to persons with disabilities, senior homeowners, and renters. Those who qualify should visit the myPath website or submit a paper application by December 31, 2022. Payments will be made via check or direct deposit. According to the state's Department of Revenue, the maximum normal rebate is $650, but some homes may be eligible for up to $925 in extra rebates.

Virginia

Individuals will get a one-time check of $250 after legislation passed the General Assembly in July, while joint filers will receive a check of $500, according to MLive.

Fourth Federal Stimulus Check Update

President Joe Biden has yet to authorize another batch of government stimulus funds, but many Americans remain hopeful. The IRS had issued stimulus checks totaling $400 billion under the third round program as of December 2021.

These were valued at $1,400 per person. Various petitions for Congress to send residents a fourth stimulus payment have circulated since then.

As inflation wreaks havoc on American finances, 64 percent now live paycheck to paycheck. Furthermore, hourly pay is falling behind the current estimated 9.1 percent inflation rate.

Congress has subsequently moved on to other matters, and no discussions concerning stimulus funds are currently on the table. It indicates that Americans should not expect a fourth check, The Sun reported.
