Ghislaine Maxwell, the former girlfriend of disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein, has been moved to a low-security federal prison in Florida that offers inmates pilates and yoga to serve her 20-year sentence.
The convict, who has filed notice that she intends to appeal her conviction and sentence, is currently listed as an inmate at the Federal Correctional Institute in Tallahassee. Authorities moved her on Friday and the facility is different from what Maxwell's attorneys had requested, as they requested for their client to serve her time in Danbury, Connecticut.
Ghislaine Maxwell's Imprisonment
The 60-year-old was convicted of conspiring with Epstein to recruit, groom, and sexually abuse minors. In a statement, former federal prosecutor, Duncan Levin, said that there was nothing cushy about Maxwell's designation as she would be surrounded by barbed wires and fences.
He noted that the prisoner's new facility is a far cry from the minimum security camps that people may imagine from television shows. On the other hand, Michael Carvajal, the outgoing director of the BOP, was subpoenaed to testify this week before a Senate panel and could face questions regarding Epstein's suicide while in jail, as per ABC News.
The convict's attorneys frequently complained about the conditions of their client's confinement at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, where she was previously held. They argued that she was subjected to harsh treatment because of her association with Epstein.

At her new prison, Maxwell will be expected to wake up at 6:00 a.m., make her bed, dress in khaki pants and a khaki shirt, and maintain a regular job assignment. Levin noted that the programs that will be offered to the convict will be few and far between given staff cutbacks and the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to Fox News, other notable prisoners who are being held at the Tallahassee facility include Russian spy Maria Butina, terrorist Colleen LaRose, also known as "Jihad Jane," and nursing home serial killer Catherine May Wood. The facility's website also noted that inmates can play flag football within the grounds.
Better Prison Conditions
The prison's indoor recreation opportunities include an artwork and hobby craft program and talent shows. Maxwell will be allowed to spend up to $360 per month at the commissary, which offers toiletries such as collagen elastin facial worth $6.22 and snacks, including smoked gouda spread worth $1.80 and Nutella worth $4.90.
Zoukis Consulting Group, a prison consulting firm, said that even sex offenders are safe at the Tallahassee FCI. They noted that an inmate revealed that all prisoners can walk the outdoor recreation area known as the yard.
The group's website noted that the facility allows even women who killed their children or other people's kids to walk freely. Maxwell will likely welcome the change in scenery after her alleged worse conditions in her previous prison.
Maxwell and her lawyers complained that jail officers were flashing a light into her cell every 15 minutes, interrupting her sleep, and subjecting her to hundreds of searches and pat-downs. She also accused a guard at the Brooklyn Facility of physically abusing her and that she was punished for complaining about it, Yahoo News reported.
