Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that the Russian Navy would receive Zircon hypersonic missiles over the next several months.

Vladimir Putin remarked during a Navy Day parade in St. Petersburg when he praised Tsar Peter the Great for developing Russia into a marine power. The president stated that the Zircon cruise missiles will be deployed in the next months, allowing the Russian Navy to attack threats promptly.

Russian Forces to Get Zircon Hypersonic Missiles

Russia initially tested the Zircon in January 2020, claiming it could reach speeds of up to 6,600 mph and hit targets within a 1,000-kilometer range (620 miles). This assertion has not been independently verified. Five persons were injured in a claimed Ukrainian drone strike on the Black Sea Fleet headquarters in Russian-occupied Crimea. Following the purported attack, Razvozhayev later stated that the city's Navy Day celebrations would be canceled.

Serhiy Bratchuk, the chief of the Odesa regional military administration in Ukraine, disputed Russian accusations of a strike and labeled it a provocation. More than 40 Ukrainian prisoners of war were murdered in a bombardment at Olenivka, which is part of the Russian-backed self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic, Newsweek via MSN reported.

Hypersonic missiles can travel at nine times the speed of sound, and Russia has performed several Zircon test launches from warships and submarines in the last year. Russia's president made no mention of Ukraine in his address, but emphasized that the missiles would be placed wherever Moscow's interests lay.

It comes amid accusations of a 'homemade drone attack' on Russia's Black Sea Fleet headquarters, which injured six personnel, according to pro-Russian mayor Mikhail Razvozhaev, while Ukrainian officials denied any participation. The primary threat to Russia, according to the doctrine, is the United States' strategic policy of dominating the world's waters and the march of the NATO military alliance closer to Russia's frontiers.

Russian Troops Attack Mykolaiv

If diplomatic and economic measures are exhausted, Russia may utilize its military power suitably to the situation in the world's waters, according to the policy, implying Putin is ready to deploy the new Zircon missiles against any maritime danger to Russia's frontiers, as per Daily Mail.

According to local reports, the southern Ukrainian city of Mykolaiv was heavily shelled early Sunday morning as Putin used his country's Navy Day to deliver additional military threats to anybody opposing Russia's sovereignty and freedom.

Cluster bombs, as stated by Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksandr Senkevych, were blowing out windows and demolishing balconies. Vitalii Kim, the chief of the Mykolaiv regional military administration, at least one person was murdered and two were injured in the incident.

Separately, at least three people were killed and eight were injured in combat in eastern Ukraine, according to the Donetsk military-civilian administration, which stated artillery, Russian Grad missiles, and Uragan rockets were used to strike settlements in the region.

In what he described as a government decision, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on the remaining people of the Donetsk area to evacuate immediately on Saturday. At least 40 detainees were killed in an attack on a jail in separatist-held eastern Ukraine on Friday. Many of the Ukrainian troops who surrendered at the Azovstal factory in Mariupol some months ago have been housed at the Olenivka jail near Donetsk.

As reported by Ukrainian intelligence, the strikes were carried out by the Russian mercenary company Wagner and were not coordinated with the Russian Ministry of Defense. CNN is unable to independently confirm the allegations made by Ukrainian military intelligence.
