Queen Elizabeth is missing an annual event that normally marks the start of her summer holiday in Scotland.

This year, the Queen, 96, will arrive at Balmoral Castle secretly rather than in public. Traditionally, she is photographed arriving at the Highlands estate in a small ceremony with troops from a Scottish regiment while military pipers and well-wishers assemble at the estate's gates.

A royal insider reveals that the arrival will now take place quietly on the estate grounds. The Queen's plans have been altered for comfort concerns, according to a royal insider. The Queen has been suffering from mobility difficulties that have forced her to cancel public engagements and obligations for several months.

The Queen had a busy late spring and early summer, going out to honor her Platinum Jubilee, which marked her 70th year on the throne. She also had a series of engagements in Edinburgh, Scotland, before returning to Windsor for an emotional investiture of health workers. But, as with many of her public appearances, her family has stepped in - last month, her son and heir, Prince Charles, 73, took her place at the Commonwealth Games ceremonial opening ceremony.

On July 21, the Queen left Windsor Castle for Scotland, where she was expected to stay in Craigowan Lodge, a smaller residence on the Highland estate. She generally stays there before moving inside the castle, which was available to the public until last week, People reported.

According to The Mail on Sunday, the Queen intends to break her Scottish vacation to visit England and ask her 15th Prime Minister to form a cabinet. Boris Johnson has declared that he would quit on September 6, when he will publicly present his resignation to Queen Elizabeth II.

The Monarch will then 'invite' the victorious Conservative candidate to become Prime Minister and proclaim their name. The Queen generally does not return from her Balmoral vacation until early October, but she is said to have instructed advisors that she will make an exception this year and go to London.

The choice of Prime Minister is one of the Queen's few personal prerogatives, which she plans to carry out in person, according to insiders. The formal site for the appointments is Buckingham Palace, however, due to restoration work, it may be moved to Windsor Castle.

The Queen's visit to greet the new Prime Minister will be brief, and she will return to Balmoral to finish her vacation. Other features of her yearly vacation have been reduced this year, such as the cancellation of a public appearance and the inspection of the guard before she arrives in Balmoral.

As per Us Weekly, the Queen's mobility troubles worsened in May 2022. The Queen continues to endure intermittent mobility challenges and has regrettably chosen not to attend the State Opening of Parliament tomorrow, according to a royal statement obtained by Reuters.

Despite the extra rest, Queen Elizabeth was forced to miss portions of her Platinum Jubilee celebrations. She was able to participate in the yearly Trooping the Colour procession as well as the Platinum Jubilee Pageant. The Queen, however, did not attend the Jubilee's Thanksgiving Service owing to the discomfort.

Even though her mobility limitations prevented her from attending several significant aspects of her Platinum Jubilee, such as the Party at the Palace performance, Queen Elizabeth was impressively engaged during the historic celebration. At 96, the Platinum Jubilee was very certainly the Queen's final Jubilee. While she is unable to participate in all of the royal customs she has in the past, Queen Elizabeth is nonetheless in high spirits as the head of the United Kingdom, as per Daily Mail.
