Many Americans had high hopes that the federal government would intervene on their behalf, just as it did by sending stimulus checks last year. But right now, the job market is robust, so it's difficult to argue for yet another federal stimulus package based on that alone. But it doesn't mean that many states aren't making their efforts to assist.
Some states choose to provide their budget surpluses to their citizens so they can use the money any way they see right. The following states intend to distribute stimulus checks in August, according to Marca.
Stimulus Checks in Each State
California
Millions of Californians will get inflation relief checks. This is for married couples with children; they will receive up to $1,050 each. The payments, which will be provided from California's $97 billion budget excess, will be distributed by direct deposits or debit cards.
Colorado
A stimulus check for $750 will be sent to state residents who filed their 2021 tax returns by June 30 by September 30; joint filers will get $1,500. A refund will be issued by January 31, 2023, to anyone who sought an extension and filed their paperwork by the deadline of October 17.
Delaware
Gov. John Carney authorized the Delaware Relief Rebate Program in a measure that was enacted into law in April. This $300 stimulus check is given to residents who submitted their 2020 tax forms.
Florida
Nearly 60,000 Florida families got one-time payments of $450 per child, according to Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, to offset the costs of growing inflation, especially with a new school year coming.
You don't need to apply; the benefit has already been automatically mailed to those who qualify. For Florida's return to school sales-tax holiday, which lasts from July 25 to August 7, stimulus checks should have arrived in time.
Georgia
Per The Ascent via MSN, Governor Brian Kemp approved a bill granting reimbursements to taxpayers who filed state taxes for both 2020 and 2021. In May, married couples filing jointly received $500, heads of households earned $375, and single taxpayers received $250.
Hawaii
If a resident's combined income was less than $200,000 or $100,000 in 2021, they will be eligible for a $300 tax credit this year. The reimbursement is also available to dependents. Individuals and couples earning more than $100,000 will each get a one-time payment of $100. Payments are expected to start coming in the mail in late August, according to the state Department of Taxation.
Idaho
Brad Little, the governor, approved a measure in February that grants each taxpayer and dependant $75 or 12 percent of their state income tax return for 2020, whichever is larger. Stimulus checks began to be issued in March. Residents have access to online evaluations of their rebate status.
Illinois
With effect starting on July 1, Illinois' projected $1.83 billion relief package includes temporary decreases in several sales taxes along with income and property tax rebates. A $50 income tax credit will be available to anyone making under $200,000 in 2021, and a $100 credit will be available to married couples filing jointly who make less than $400,000 in that year. In addition, taxpayers are allowed to claim up to three dependents for $100 each on their 2021 taxes. A family of five may bring in up to $400 in total.
Indiana
Indiana residents are entitled to $125 refunds regardless of their income because of the state's automatic taxpayer refund statute. Payments paid through direct deposit started to be made in May. The second round of payments, giving taxpayers $225 each or $450 for married couples filing jointly, has already been requested by Gov. Eric Holcomb. Stimulus checks were supposed to be distributed in July, but won't be until August, according to Holcomb, because the paper supply required was delayed.
New Jersey
About two million New Jersey residents are receiving property tax refunds thanks to the $2 billion Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters (ANCHOR) initiative, which Governor Phil Murphy enacted at the end of June.
Homeowners earning up to $150,000 will receive a $1,500 property tax credit, while those earning between $150,000 and $250,000 would receive a $1,000 rebate. Renters will receive payments of $450 if their yearly income is up to $150,000.
New Mexico
The Land of Enchantment will give all taxpayers a refundable income tax credit, worth $500 for single filers and $1,000 for joint filers, heads of household, and surviving spouses. The state has provided $250 reimbursements to individual taxpayers who filed tax returns alone and earned less than $75,000.
New York
Property tax reimbursements of up to $1,050 started to be given to almost 3 million New York state households in June. In New York City, the average family income is $425.
Maine
Taxpayers in Maine who have submitted their state tax returns for the year 2021 and have adjusted gross incomes under $100,000 are eligible for an $850 immediate relief payment. Married couples filing jointly will get a single payment of $1,700. Before the middle of July, stimulus checks were anticipated to come.
Massachusetts
Despite the failure of Gov. Charlie Baker's plans for a one-time $250 refund, the state is still poised to return more than $2.5 billion in extra tax income to taxpayers. For a person making $75,000, that comes out to around $250, which is what Baker had originally planned to send.
Minnesota
Frontline workers in Minnesota who are eligible for a one-time payment of $750 include emergency responders, medical staff, judicial personnel, and retail employees. The Frontline Worker Pay application period closed on July 22, 2022. After that date, there will be a processing and verification period, followed by a 15-day appeals period, which is expected to be between August 16 and August 31.
Pennsylvania
In July, a major $121.7 million payout made possible by the Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program began to be disbursed to over 260,000 senior homeowners, renters, and disabled persons. The maximum normal rebate, according to the Department of Revenue, is $650, but extra rebates for qualifying homes can bring that amount to $975.
South Carolina
South Carolina taxpayers will begin getting income tax refund cheques of up to $800 in late November or December 2022. Any resident who paid taxes will get a refund of up to $800 per filing, with the amount increasing in proportion to their tax burden.
Virginia
Individual filers will earn $250, while married couples filing jointly would receive $500, according to legislation enacted by the Virginia General Assembly in July. Payments will be made by direct deposit and mailed checks.
Stimulus Payments in Other States Are Still Needed
The fact that states are taking control of stimulus measures is a positive thing for suffering Americans. While the state stimulus payments due this month are likely to be far smaller than the $1,400 Americans received in the spring of 2021, in a period when everything from housing to petrol to food has become prohibitively costly, every dollar matters.
Republicans have continuously opposed increasing the stimulus package, and Congress's power is split down the middle. Furthermore, in light of growing inflation, some conservative Democrats are opposed to printing additional money. According to Digital Market News, several left-leaning senators have been working for months to approve legislation that would offer parents a higher tax credit and further financial assistance, but they were unable to reach an agreement.
