Prince William, Harry Kept in the Dark Over Princess Diana's Documentary
Princes William and Prince Harry have been kept in the dark about a new documentary about their mother's death. The new Channel 4 documentary will investigate the police investigations that followed Diana's murder and the conspiracy theories that arose as a result.
The princess was 36 years old when she died in a vehicle accident in Paris on August 31, 1997, over 25 years ago. The four-part series Investigating Diana: Death In Paris will detail the two investigations into the tragedy, the first conducted by the French Brigade Criminelle in 1997 and the second by the Metropolitan Police in 2004.
As reported by The Telegraph, sources have verified that neither Prince William nor Prince Harry were contacted or provided a preview of the documentary. Both princes have guarded their mother's memories. The documentary will be delivered as a gripping and forensic police procedural and will look at how powerful individuals, the press, and the internet developed and nourished conspiracy theories that swamped facts and called into question the fundamental essence of reality.
It will include interviews with investigators from both agencies, some of whom will be making public appearances for the first time. The series will also look at the public's insatiable need for answers, which fueled extraordinary press attention and the explosion of Internet chatrooms, where conjecture about the 'true cause' of Diana's death became one of the early viral hits of the early internet."
It is directed by Will Jessop and Barnaby Pell and produced by Sandpaper Films, the same company that produced Diana, 7 Days, around a week following her death. Meanwhile, The Princess, another documentary on Diana's life, will debut this month after causing controversy by featuring footage from her 1995 Panorama interview with Martin Bashir. William has already stated that the film of his mother should never be shown again, and the BBC has stated that it would not broadcast or license it, as per Mirror.
