According to one of Princess Diana's former bodyguards, she planned to go to the United States without her sons, Prince William and Prince Harry, just weeks before her death.
Lee Sansum describes in his biography, 'Protecting Diana: A Bodyguard's Story', how the princess was going to inform the media about her plans to travel to America to protect Prince William and Prince Harry from the press when they were vacationing in St Tropez with her lover, Dodi Al-Fayed, in July 1997.
Princess Diana Planned To Leave Children in UK
According to Sansum, who accompanied the royals on their trip, the family was sleeping aboard businessman Mohammed Al-opulent Fayed's yacht as paparazzi crowded the boat every day. At the time, Sansum recalled asking Princess Diana if her sons would be accompanying her, to which she replied that she would never be permitted to relieve them of their royal responsibilities.
After a few days of vacation, Princess Diana declared to the press that she was leaving the UK permanently, according to Sansum. The princess did talk to the press that day, but she didn't mention anything about relocating to the United States. Despite her criticisms about the press, Princess Diana was renowned for working with chosen reporters and photographers and would frequently provide them with information about her locations if she wanted to be shot.
Sansum's book responds to suggestions that Princess Diana was mentally disturbed in the weeks preceding up to her death in a Paris vehicle disaster in August 1997, which also killed Dodi, as per Daily Mail. He went on to claim that Princess Diana had intended to spend a lot of time with the boys, Prince William and Prince Harry, during their school holidays.
They were just not permitted to depart with her. Lady Diana was keen to escape the media attention she had attracted, having been hounded by the photographers. Sansum went on to say that it was only by accident that he was not assigned to care for Princess Diana and Dodi while they were in Paris at the end of August 1997.
Instead, he says, his good buddy Trevor Rees-Jones was assigned with the job and was severely injured in the automobile crash that killed driver Henri Paul, Dodi, and Princess Diana. Paul had been speeding as he went through the Pont de l'Alma tunnel, attempting to evade photographers who had been following their vehicle. In his book, Sansum describes the princess as one of the kindest individuals you could meet, The Sun reported.

Queen, Prince Charles Have No Plans To Commemorate Princess Diana's Death
The royal family has no plans to publicly mark the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana's death on Wednesday next week, demonstrating, some argue, how threatened they are by her, even in death. While her sons are largely anticipated to pay their respects online, Prince Charles, who had an affair with his second wife, Camilla Parker Bowles, both before and during much of his marriage to Princess Diana, which the Princess of Wales openly blamed for the breakdown of their relationship, is likely to remain silent.
In answer to an inquiry about whether or how the prince will observe the day, Prince Charles' office declined to comment. However, he has never made a public remark on any anniversary of Princess Diana's death, and it is doubtful that he will do so now.
A royal insider suggested the queen's commemoration of Prince Diana's death was unlikely. The reason there will be nothing spoken or done to celebrate the anniversary of her death is the same reason there is practically nothing in London to mark her life, Jon Conway, creator of the controversial play 'Truth, Lies, and Diana', which portrayed Princess Diana's death, told The Daily Beast.
